The Definition
Elliptical structure is deletion
of word or some words from a
sentence which is purposed and
make it shorter and the
structure is better.
Pattern 1
Two positive sentences with the same VOC.
Main Positive Sentence + and + Subject + Verb+ too
or
Main Positive Sentence + and + so + Verb + Subject
E.g:
He is busy. I am busy.
Pattern 2
Two negative sentences with the same VOC.
Main Negative Sentence + and + Subject + Negative Aux + either
or
Main Negative Sentence + and + neither + Positive Aux + Subject
E.g:
I dont like apple. She doent
like apple.
PATTERN 3
But form: to combine two contradictory
sentences in the same tense.
Subject + Positive/Negative Aux (Modal) ... + But + Subject +
Negative/Positive Aux (Modal) ...
E.g:
Ali can play the guitar. Amir
cant play the guitar.
PATTERN 4
To combine two positive sentences which have
same VO/C but different S, or same SV but
different O/C.
Both .......... and ..........
PATTERN 5
To explain one of two actions in two sentences
with
the same tense.
Either .......... or ..........
E.g:
We can read a newspaper. We We can either read a

PATTERN 6
To explain that both of them are not from two
actions in positive sentence with the same tense.
Neither .......... nor ..........
E.g:
My brother isnt a policeman.
My brother isnt a postman.
My brother is neither a
policeman nor a postman.
