LOGISTICS
The part of the supply chain process that plans,
implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward
and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and
related information between the point of origin and the
point of consumption in order to meet customers
requirements.

RETAIL LOGISTICS
It is the organised process of managing the flow of
merchandise from the source of supply to the customer.
Thus it incorporates the following functions:
Physically moving the goods from one location to
another, where location may be a distribution centre,
warehouse, store or manufacturer.
Stocking the goods at the location needed in the
quantities needed.
The management of this entire process.

EMERGING CONCEPTS
3PL
-It is a company which supplies/co-ordinates logistics
functions across multiple links in the supply chain.
-3PL is typically specialise in integrated warehousing and
transportation services that can be scaled and
customised to customers needs based on market
conditions and the demands and delivery service
requirements for their products and materials.
-companies often consider outsourcing the function of
logistics as they believe they can focus on their core

4PL:
-It refers to the evolution in logistics from suppliers
focused on warehousing and transportation(3PL) to
suppliers offering a more integrated solution.
-Among other services, 4PL providers include SCM and
solutions, change management capabilities, and valueadded services in their offering.

Cross Docking:
-it is a practice of logistics whereby the merchandise
being received at the warehouse is in fact immediately
ready for transportation to its destination.
-it involves little or no warehousing.

Reverse Logistics
-the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the
efficient, cost effective flow of raw materials, in-process
inventory, finished goods and related information from the point
of consumption to the point of origin for the purpose of
recapturing value or proper disposal.
