ULTIMATE

FRISBEE

FLYING DISCS "FRISBEE"

introduced at Yale University

(USA) in the early 1900s

modeled after a baking tin

from a near by pie shop
called "Frisbie Pie Company".
The metal tins would fly short
distances when thrown

the first plastic frisbee was

created in 1948 by Fred
Morrison and was massproduced in 1951 by Wham-O
and called a "Pluto Platter"

Wham-O later trademarked

the name "Frisbee" after the
original pie company went
out of business

HISTORY OF ULTIMATE FRISBEE

In 1965 a group of friends at Amherst College (USA) created

a frisbee game which combined rules from American
football, basketball and soccer. Among the creators was
Jared Kaas, who taught the new game to high school friend
Joel Silver in 1968

Joel and fellow high school friends played the first official
game that year between the Student Council and Student
Newspaper Staf

By 1969 the game was being played in the school parking

lot with a "master" disc produced by Wham-O toys

Each high school student brought the new sport to their

universities the following year

started as a free spirited sport, Ultimate has now become

popular with more traditional athletes and spread
internationally

PLAYING FIELD & MATERIALS

playing field for ULTIMATE is made up of

in field and an endzone on either side. To score a goal, players must
h the frisbee in the endzone of the opposing team

Materials: a frisbee!

THROWING TECHNIQUES (MOST

BACKHAND
COMMON)
The most common and easiest pass. Four fingers are
under the frisbee and thumb on top. Spin inward and curl
your arm and wrist. Throw the frisbee straight forward by
uncurling your position
FOREHAND (FLICK)
Place the middle and index finger under the frisbee and the thumb on top.
Curling the wrist backward, flick the frisbee forward and let it roll of of your
fingers. Ensure that you thrown the frisbee straight forward and flat.
*like skipping a stone

Hammer
This throw is held the same as the forehand throw but overhead. Pull frisbee back to
behind your head and hold it at a slight angle. The top of the frisbee should be facing left
(if held in the right hand). As if throwing an ax, send the frisbee forward. The frisbee
should tilt and arrive at your teammate upside-down.

THROWING TECHNIQUES

CATCHING TECHNIQUES

Catching can be done with either one or both hands. A

catch using both hands is referred to as "clap-catch"
and is the preferred method as it is more secure

Discs can also be caught using one hand by catching it

on the rim. This technique, however, may be more
difficult because the disc may spin out of the hand

BASIC RULES

7-12 people per team (or teams of equal number)

teams score goals by catching the frisbee in their

opponents' endzone

game ends when either team reaches 15 points (with a

margin of 2 points)

players throw the frisbee to their teammates to reach

the otherside of the field. Players can not move while
holding the frisbee

possession of the frisbee changes if: it is intercepted,

dropped, out of bounds, held while a player moves, a
player holds the frisbee for 10 seconds, a goal is
scored
