Preface

HSDPA is introduced in R5, downlink 14.4Mbps.

HSUPA is introduced in R6, uplink 5.73Mbps.
Key technology of HSDPA includes 2ms frame, HARQ, etc.
Key technology of HSUPA includes 2ms frame and HARQ, etc.
In RAN10 and earlier version, HSPA Phase1 and Phase 2 is
implemented, supporting the features mentioned above
HSPA+ is introduce in R7, which is implemented in RAN11,
supporting enhanced L2, CPC, 64QAM, MIMO and enhanced CELLFACH, etc.

RAN11 L2 enhancement

RAN11 other features of HSPA+

L2 enhancement

HSPA+ data rate aims: downlink 28Mbps, uplink 11.5Mbps

RAN10 supports Max. 14.4Mbps/5.76Mbps
Its cant support HSPA+
WHY ?
The reason is that L2 capability is limited.
Max data rate = window size PDU size / round trip time
In RAN10,

Window size = 2048

PDU size = 656 bit
Round trip time = 80 ms
2048656/80ms 16.8Mbps

L2 enhancement

Possible solution is:

Bigger window size, but this will damage the
efficiency because MAC-ehs will multiplex more RLC
PDU which brings more overhead information
Flexible PDU size, larger size is a good way for higher
data rate, and smaller size is good for UE which is far
from the Node-B
Shorter RTT, but this is not controllable

L2 enhancement in RAN11

RAN11 Implementation:
Flexible PDU size in RLC (AM) layer
MAC-ehs is introduced in MAC layer

Flexible PDU Size

RLC AM support fixed size and flexible size

MAC-ehs
High layer could configure MAC-ehs or MAC-hs
MAC-ehs supports flexible RLC PDU sizes
MAC-ehs supports segmentation and reassemble
MAC-ehs supports MIMO

Enhanced Cell FACH

HSDPA data service cannot be provided in Cell FACH state and user
need to change its state from Cell_FACH to Cell_DCH for
transmitting or receiving HSDPA data
Problem : This creates data delay
Solution: The logical channels and traffic channels are mapped on
HS-DSCH channel instead of FACH channel

Enhanced Cell FACH Improvements

Higher data rate is possible

Advantages

Improve users experience , decrease call setup delay

Continuous Packet Connectivity (CPC)

Increase the battery life time of the user terminal.

CPC helps users to stay long time in connected mode so that users
can experience always online.
CPC consists of following features:
A new slot format for DPCCH

Higher Order Modulation

Data Rate

64QAM

21 Mbps

16 QAM

14.4 Mbps

DL16QAM and 64QAM peak rate comparison

By using 64QAM instead of

16QAM as modulation scheme in
HSPA+ downlink, the number of
bits per symbol increase from
4bits to 6bits and hence the
data rate increased and
throughput

Multi Input Multi Output

(MIMO)
Single stream
Dual stream

Huawei MIMO based specified Remote Radio Unit (RRU) transceivers can support MIMO
within one module.
2x2 MIMO + 16QAM (Single Cell) 28 Mbps
2x2 MIMO + 64QAM (Single Cell) 42 Mbps

Dual Band HSDPA (DB-HSDPA)

RNC Configuration
To get adjnode ID use this command:
LST UNODEB: LstType=ByNodeBId,
NodeBId=xxxx;

Page 18

Take the adjNodeID to list all

IPPATHs :
LST IPPATH: ANI=xxx;
mean adjacent node ID
Then Modify all these IPPATHs : MOD
IPPATH: ANI=xxx, PATHID=x, ITFT=IUB,
TXBW=50000, RXBW=50000;

RNC Switches :
Check the Switch is OFF or ON :
LST UCORRMALGOSWITCH: LstFormat=VERTICAL;
Enable the switch of the DC HSDPA algorithm :
SET UCORRMALGOSWITCH:CfgSwitch=CFG_HSDPA_DC_SWITCH-1;
Set the preferred technology to DC HSDPA :
SET UFRC: MIMO64QAMorDCHSDPASwitch=DC_HSDPA;

Page 20

Page 21

Change UFRC Switch :

Check the UFRC :
LST UFRC: LstFormat=VERTICAL;
SET UFRC: MIMO64QAMorDCHSDPASwitch=DC_HSDPA;
That means we List the RNC-Oriented Fundamental Resource
Configuration (FRC) parameters.
The FRC function includes two aspects:
Allocation of channel type and bandwidth based on service
requests.
Configuration of channel parameters based on the Quality of
Service (QoS) requirements.

SET UFRC:

Cell health information

This command make a health check on special Cell to select better cell could be
working DC and check the Current user of number.
DSP UCELLCHK: CHECKSCOPE=CELLID, CellId=xxxxx;

Number of user is Zero

Example The cell in DPUe Board in slot 14 subrack 0

Page 24

DC-HSDPA function of cell : indicates whether the logical cell

provides the DC function, depending on the status of the local cell.
DC-HSDPA function of local cell: indicates whether the local cell
provides the DC function.
Local Cell ID of DC Assisted Cell indicates the ID of another cell in
the DC carrier group that corresponds to the local cell.
