EXAMINATION: ITS

IMPLICATIONS TO THE
STUDENTS OF THE
INSTITUTE OF
BUSINESS EDUCATION

INTRODUCTION
With the purpose of ushering their institutions towards
greater academic heights, various colleges and
universities strive for the continuous adaptation of
educational structures to promote better student
performance. One of the changes that may take place in
a certain institution is the implementation of
departmentalized system of examination.
Departmentalized System of Examination is a
structure whereas students who are enrolled in the same
subject will take similar set of test questionnaire even
though they have been taught by different instructors.

lmore, Peterson, et al. (1996) believed that


changing the way schools are organized will
cause teachers to teach differently; hence
students will learn differently, and the overall
performance of schools will increase. With
that being said, the aim of the school to
advance the students' achievement will be
obtained if there is a significant change in a
certain process.

According
to
Vonn
Alcayde,
examination can be a springboard to
assess students performance. It is used
for measuring the capability of the
students and the school examination
system provided should be accurate to
measure the students abilities.

Statement of the
Problem

The main purpose of this study is to determine


the implications of departmentalized system of
examination to the Institute of Business
Education students of Mabalacat City College.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following
questions:
1. Are the respondents in favor of the
Departmentalized System of Examination?
2. How did the Departmentalized System of
Examination affect the grades of the
respondents?
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages
of departmentalized system of examination to
the respondents?

Statistical Treatment

The responses made by the Institute of


Business Education (IBE) students describe
their age, gender, and their anticipated
problems were presented. Descriptive
statistic is used such as percentage, and
rank. The responses to the questionnaire
by IBE students were statistically analyzed
with the data requirements of the study.
The
respondent
can
choose
their
perspective answer by answering yes or no
question and choosing to the given answer.

and Interpretation of Data

Summary, Conclusion,
and Recommendations

Summary

To come up with relevant, reliable and


credible data, the researcher gathered
information through survey. Before hand,
we select respondents by using random
sampling
method.
Therein,
the
respondents will represent the whole
population. Moreover, the questionnaires
were given to the chosen IBE students as
respondents.
The researcher then will collect,
tabulate and interpret the data in order to
conclude the results of the study and

CONCLUSION
Most of the respondents are not in favor
to the newly implemented method of
examination.
Majority of the respondents experienced
more traditional way of examination
than departmentalized.

In view point of the respondents, they


believed that they have positive
outcome. Under the departmentalized
system of examination, they become
more challenged, the method really
tests their efficient and effective
understanding about the subject matter
and it increases their performance that
will help them to achieve their goals.

Meanwhile, even if they have positive outcome,


they also believed that hindrances arise such as
time pressured by the time, some questions in
the test might not be discussed by the teacher
and the level of difficulty of examination
changes.
Departmentalized system of examination affects
their academic performances because according
to them they got lower grades in prelim and
midterm under departmentalized compare to
their grades in traditional way of examination.

RECOMMENDATION
- To the Deans, Professors, and
Instructional Staff , they are to be
concerned about the continuous decline
in the number of students performing
proficient
implementation
of
departmentalized System of Examination.
- To the School Administrators, Deans,
Professors, and Instructional Staff, they
are to
examine the procedures and
determine
the
effectiveness
of

- To the school Administrators, they are to


schedule professional development for all the
professors and instructional staff involved in
the Departmentalized System of Examination.
- As a result of the current study,
Departmentalized System of Examination has
negatively impact the Institute of Business
Education
(IBE)
students
achievement.
Departmentalized System of Examination
requires professors to be deemed highly
qualified in the subject they teach.
