Subscribing To Usage (Bill Determinants)

Usage is periodically sent to the CIS and other systems
A usage subscription (US) must exist before a customer or a SP's
usage can be calculated
The US controls how usage is calculated and the SPs whose
consumption is used to calculate the usage
Via an install event linked to the
MC's device configuration

Multiple Service Points and Multiple MCs

At any instant in time:

A US may be linked to multiple SPs

A SP may be linked to multiple USs

An SP may be linked to a single device configuration

A device configuration may have multiple MCs

During a usage calculation's time-period:

The SPs linked to the US can change (SPs can be added and removed)

The device configurations installed at the SP can change (due to device reconfigurations and meter
exchanges)
The above means that usage can be calculated using multiple SPs and MCs
A meter exchange has occurred at
this SP (i.e., there are multiple
install events for the SP)

A Usage Subscription Has Contacts

A contact exists for every individual or business related to a usage subscription
A US may have 0 to many contacts

0 is possible when the subscription is not related to a customer's

consumption
A contact may be referenced on many USs
A contact has a 1:1 correlation with a "person" in the CIS and the CIS is the
system of record

How contacts are kept in sync with the CIS is described in the Advanced Course

Service Providers
The service point chapter described how service providers can
be associated with a market and/or the SPs in a market
Recall that this information is optional and typically only set
up in deregulated markets
USs, on the other hand, must reference a service provider
This is the identity of the subscribing system
In other words, an implementation must set up a service
provider for systems that subscribe to bill determinants
The service provider can be defined on the US type and
overridden on the US (seldom required, but possible)

Practice 8-1 (15 Minutes)

In this practice, you will design and set up the suite of admin data necessary to
support the following usage subscriptions:

A residential water usage subscription that is linked to your residential

water SP

A residential waste-water usage subscription that is linked to the same

residential water SP

An electric usage subscription that is linked to the your electric SP

These usage subscriptions will be linked to same customer

After the admin data is in place, please create USs and link your residential
water and electric SPs to them

8-1 Data Overview

This practice will use one of the service
providers that is already set up in demo
(in real life, an implementation would
have to set up a service provider for the
subscriber)

8-1 Solution
Contact
1

Navigate to Main / Customer Information / + Contact to

add a new contact. Please select the Person contact type
when prompted.

This field only exists in

demo (it is used to define
the name of the scenario
a contact is associated
with so people can find
use-cases by entering the
scenario name on 360
(in the Name filter)

8 - 12

Enter a name that you can

remember
Enter a Social Security Number in the format
shown (but use some random numbers rather
than the mask characters)

Usage Subscription
3

Navigate to Main / Usage / + Usage Subscription to add a

new water residential usage subscription. Please select
your RW - Water Residential US type when prompted.

Select your water residential

service point using the search

Repeat for the waste water usage subscription

(using the same water service point).
Repeat for the electric usage subscription. Make
sure to select the electric residential service
point.

8-1 Solution
Checkpoint
Navigate to 360 Search and enter your customer's Name.

If you've set everything up correctly, your

customer should look as follows. Notice how the
water and waste water usage subscriptions have
a single MC whereas the electric has two (one for
the generated, the other for the consumed).
