Demand
(BOD):
Biochemical oxygen demand tests show the
amount of molecular oxygen required by bacteria to
reduce
the
carbonaceous
materials
and
transformation of organic matter under aerobic
conditions.
The determination of DO of a sample before and
after five days incubation at 20C is the basic of
BOD determination.
Analysis: It can be determined by Winklers method
of 5 day BOD test.
Standard: The standard set by DoE is <50 mg/L for
discharge into surface water.
