Competence:
A competent

person can be defined as one who


does the job right first time.
GMP requires each & every one of us be
competent in our jobs.
Identifying & Defining your job competenciesList the Knowledge (MUST KNOWS) & Skills
(MUST DOS) necessary to perform your job

Well how about doctor ?
Diagnosing the illness incorrectly or prescribing
the wrong medication could result in error that
could adversely affect the patients health.
Airline pilot - When you board an airplane you put
your trust & confidence in pilots ability to fly &
land the plane safely.

Do I perform my job to the best of my ability ?
Am I competent in performing my job ?
Why answer to above two questions should be
yes ?

Products ! When customer use one of


our products, they are putting their trust in our
ability to manufacture Quality Products.
We need proper buildings, equipments, materials
to manufacture quality products, Written
procedures to give us orders & predictability in
our manufacturing operations.
But most important we need competent people
who knows how to perform the job right first time
& every time.

Competencies ? Two questions we must ask


ourselves in order to define & develop our own
job competencies -- 1.What must I know ? 2.What must I be able to do
to perform my job right every time?
Your job ,then, consist of specific must knows
( refer to the knowledge you need to perform your
job) and must dos ( refer to the skills required
by your job)

Competencies as you begin your personal quest
for competence .
1.most job requires a person to be competent in
approximately 32 knowledge & skill areas.
2.Competence is more than a diploma, degree, or
certificate. for example the MBBS,MD degree
holder does not necessarily ensure that he/she is
competent physician. ie Competence is always
demonstrated by successful job performance.

Patient! No one is, or ever could be ,totally


competent in everything.e.g Your doctor may refer
you to a hospital for diagnostic tests which require
special equipments & skill . So like your doctor ,
dont forget to ask for help if you find that you donot
have the knowledge or skill to perform the job right
first time.

Training.Education help us to develop must

to successfully perform our jobs.

experience.
On-the-job experience gives us opportunity to
demonstrate our job competence in an actual work
situation.
I hear & I forget , I see & I remember, I do & I
understand.
So , it is important to properly use your education
& training , and your on-the-job experience to
demonstrate your job competence.
Make GMP . A lifestyle , not just a regulation .
