Terrorism" comes from the French word terrorisme, and originally


referred specifically to state terrorism as practiced by the French
government during the 17931794 Reign of Terror.

Terrorism is, in its broadest sense, the use or threatened use of


violence(terror) in order to achieve a political, religious, or
ideological aim.

In modern times, terrorism is considered a major threat to society


and therefore illegal under anti-terrorism laws in most jurisdictions..

It is a 4th generation war fare.

Types

State-Sponsored terrorism, which consists of terrorist acts on a state or


government by a state or government.

Dissent terrorism, which are terrorist groups which have rebelled against their
government.

Terrorists and the Left and Right, which are groups rooted in political ideology.

Religious terrorism, which are terrorist groups which are extremely religiously
motivated.

Criminal Terrorism, which are terrorists acts used to aid in crime and criminal
profit.

Within an hour and 42 minutes, both 110-storytowers collapsed, with debris


and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other
buildings in the World Trade Center complex.

10 members ofLashkar-e-Taiba, an Islamic militant organization based inPakistan, carried out a


series of 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks lasting four days acrossMumbai.

Began on Wednesday, 26 November and lasted until Saturday, 29 November 2008, killing 164
people and wounding at least 308.

Friday 13 November 2015, a series of coordinatedterrorist attacksoccurred


inParis

3 suicide bombers struck outside theStade de Francein Saint-Denis, during a


football match

followed by several mass shootings, and a suicide bombing, at cafs and


restaurants

another mass shooting and took hostages at a concert in theBataclan theatre

130 people were killed,368 people were injured

TheIslamic State of Iraq and the Levant(ISIL) claimed responsibility for the
attacks,saying that it was retaliation for the French airstrikes on ISIL targetsin
Syria and Iraq.

In response to the attacks, a three-monthstate of emergencywas declared


across the country to help fight terrorism, which involved the banning of
public demonstrations, and allowing the police to carry out searches without
a warrant, put anyone under house arrest without trial and block websites
that encouraged acts of terrorism.

On 15 November, France launched the biggest airstrike ofOperation


Chammal, its contribution to the anti-ISIL bombing campaign, striking ISIL
targets inAl-Raqqah.

On 18 November, the suspected lead operative of the attacks,Abdelhamid


Abaaoud, was killed ina police raid in Saint-Denis, along with two others.

MEASURES TAKEN BY WORLD

UNSC(UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL) started Counterterrorism


Committee (CTC).

Steps taken are:

Criminalize the financing of terrorism

Freeze without delay any funds related to persons involved in acts of terrorism

Deny all forms of financial support for terrorist groups

Suppress the provision of safe haven, sustenance or support for terrorists

Share information with other governments on any groups practicing or


planning terrorist acts

Cooperate with other governments in the investigation, detection,


arrest, extradition and prosecution of those involved in such acts; and

Criminalize active and passive assistance for terrorism in domestic


law and bring violators

Cooperate with other governments in the investigation, detection,
