INTRODUCTION
Excellance, Inc. was founded in 1975 by George F. Epps,
Dot Humphrey, and Zeb Overstreet. For the purpose of designing,
developing and manufacturing a Premium Quality, all aluminum
modular ambulance in accordance with Federal Specifications.
Excellance is a Family Owned Company and all of our customers are
part of our Family.
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Excellance is one of the oldest and most respected manufacturers
of emergency vehicles in the world. From inception, the company's
stated goal has been to produce the finest quality emergency
medical, specialty and rescue vehicles available.
Custom built" working closely with you to provide exactly what
meets your needs.
Investing in an Excellance Mobile Stroke Unit will cost less to own
than units built by other manufacturers with much more to offer.
Our customers find they save money due to the fact that they
do not incur excessive repair costs allowing the trucks to
spend more time doing what they were built to do.
SAVE LIVES!
THE FIRST MSU AMBULANCE WAS BUILT AND DELIVERED TO THE CLEVELAND CLINIC IN
JUNE OF 2014. WE ARE CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION ON A MORE FEATURE HEAVY
UNIT FOR BARROW NEUROSURGICAL LOCATED IN PHOENIX, AZ. WE ARE WORKING WITH
MULTIPLE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE REQUESTED THEIR INTENTIONS REMAIN
CONFIDENTIAL UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THEY ARE READY TO MAKE A PUBLIC
ANNOUNCEMENT.
THE LEFT PICTURE SHOWS COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT AND THE RIGHT PICTURE
SHOWS THE ACTION AREA CONTROL PANEL WITH A DIGITAL CLOCK FEATURING 1, 5 AND 10
MINUTE TIMER OPTIONS. CAT-6 COMMUNICATION PORTS ARE LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE
INTERIOR OF THE AMBULANCE BODY FOR HARD-WIRED ROUTER CONNECTIONS.
FOLD OUT SIDE ENTRY STEP PLATFORM PREVENTS ACCIDENTAL TRIPPING INTO THE
STEPWELL AREA AND CREATES A SAFE AREA TO WALK WITHIN THE AMBULANCE.
WITH ALL NEW AND FUTURE MSU AMBULANCES THE SEATED POSITIONS WILL HAVE 6POINT SEAT BELT HARNESSES IN ORDER MEET THE NEW SAE OCCUPANCY RESTRAINT
REQUIREMENTS OF SAE-J3026. THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT SHOWS AN ONBOARD
REFRIGERATION SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS FOR CONSTANT TEMPERATURE MONITORING TO
ENSURE THAT THE DRUGS BEING CARRIED NEVER GO OUTSIDE OF THEIR REQUIRED
TEMPERATURE RANGES.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THIS STANDARD CAME INTO EFFECT IN JULY OF 2016 AND THAT ANY
COMPANY PRODUCING AN MSU AMBULANCE WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLY. JUST AS IMPORTANT TO NOTE
IS THAT WHILE THE MOUNTING HARDWARE WILL BE CERTIFIED TO THE SAE J3043 STANDARD, THE CT
SCANNER ITSELF IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING THE IMPACTS THAT THE SAE
STANDARD REQUIRES.
IN ORDER TO ACCOUNT FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A MAJOR TRAFFIC INCIDENT, WE HAVE DESIGNED A
CABINET ENCLOSURE TO CONTAIN THE CT SCANNER. THIS WILL IMPROVE THE SAFETY FOR ALL
OCCUPANTS IN THE COMPARTMENT IN THE EVENT OF THE SCANNER BEING DAMAGED DURING AN IMPACT.
WE HAVE TAKEN THE POSITION THAT FOR ALL ITEMS THAT ARE CRITICAL TO THE
OPERATION OF THE AMBULANCE. IN ORDER TO KEEP THE TRUCK ON THE ROAD AND OUT
OF THE SHOPS, ALL CRITICAL OPERATING SYSTEMS HAVE BUILT IN REDUNDANCY.
THE FOLLOWING SLIDES REFLECT SOME OF THE ITEMS ON NOTE.
AFTER REVIEWING THE NORMAL CLIMATE IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT
TEMPERATURES DO NOT GENERALLY REACH EXTREMES (EITHER HOT OR COLD). REGARDLESS, WE HAVE
IMPLEMENTED DUAL INDEPENDENT A/C-HEAT SYSTEMS THAT ARE 12VDC POWER SUPPLIED. THE DUAL A/C
SYSTEM GIVES YOU THE BEST RECOVERY TIME TO SET TEMPERATURES AND THE ADDED BENEFIT THAT IN
THE EVENT OF AN A/C FAILURE EITHER ONE OF THE A/C SYSTEMS ARE POWERFUL ENOUGH TO CLIMATE
CONTROL THE INTERIOR OF THE AMBLANCE BODY. THIS WILL REDUCE THE NEED TO TAKE A TRUCK OUT
OF SERVICE IN THE VENT THAT ONE OF THE A/C SYSTEMS FAIL OVER TIME.
IN ADDITION TO THE DUAL 12VDC A/C HEAT SYSTEMS, WE HAVE ALSO MADE PROVISIONS
FOR A 120VAC A/C-HEAT SYSTEM. THIS CAN BE A ROOF MOUNT SYSTEM OR A BASEMENT
MODEL SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM CAN BE OPERATED VIA THE ONBOARD GENERATOR OR THE
SHORELINE WHEN PARKED FOR CONSTANT TEMPERATURE CONTROL.
WE HAVE DESIGNED OUR TRUCK TO HAVE AS A STANDARD FEATURE (BUT NOT REQUIRED)
AN ONBOARD LEVELING SYSTEM. THIS SYSTEM IS IMPORTANT SO THAT IF YOU PULL TO A
SCENE AND THE TRUCK IS NOT PARKED IN A LEVEL POSITION, THE LEVELING SYSTEM CAN
BE DEPLOYED ON-SITE. THE CT SCANNER REQUIRES THAT THE SYSTEM BE LEVEL FOR
ACCURATE OPERATION. THIS LEVELING SYSTEM IS RATED AT 64,000LBS. (NEARLY FOUR
TIMES WHAT THE TRUCK WOULD ACTAULLY WEIGH). THE LINK ON THE RIGHT SHOWS A
SHORT VIDEO OF THE LEVELING SYSTEM IN OPERATION.
FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR ADDITIONAL BILLING AVENUES AND TO HELP PREVENT BACK
INJURIES WE HAVE SEVERAL CUSTOMERS WHO ARE DESIGNING INTO THEIR AMBULANCE
A BARIATRIC HYDRAULIC LIFT SYSTEM. THIS WILL LOAD THE COT UP TO FLOOR LEVEL AND
ALLOW FOR EASE OF PATIENT LOADING. THIS ALSO ALLOWS THE ADDITIONAL
CLASSIFICATION OF A BARIATRIC AMBULANCE IF SO DESIRED.
HERE IS A VIDEO OF THE OPERATION FOR SUCH A SYSTEM.

MODULE
Excellance modular bodies are built to last, utilizing specially-designed
extruded aluminum framework (no glue or tape) and .125" thick aluminum
plate welded together to form a very strong but lightweight modular body.
We accomplish our unique construction without the use of exposed seams,
cracks, spot-welding, glue, or tape that are commonly found with lowerpriced and mass-produced ambulances. The result is a seamless,
aerodynamic structure that is considered to be the safest and most durable
body in our industry.
We are so sure of this extra durability that we provide a 25-year structural
warranty on the body and the all-aluminum welded interior cabinet structure
that is renewed each time Excellance remounts the modular body.
Body on the squaring jig, all of the exterior structure is assembled, welded
together to create a safety cage.
3/16 thick Aluminum gussets are continuously welded into place in all corners of the body, over all
entry doors and many other places (as many as 40-50 gussets on a single body) to strengthen the
structure of the body. These gussets help to put the safety of Excellance bodies heads and shoulders
over the competition.
The Floor structure consists of 2 X 2 X .250 aluminum extrusions running the length of the floor, in
combination with 2 X 2 X .125 extrusions installed side to side. Additionally we use .75 thick X 3
wide solid aluminum barstock for all cot and seat mounting anchor points.
Corner post extrusion and cap have insets to allow exterior skins to be fully
seam welded, providing smooth seamless exterior walls and doors.
Many of the exterior holes in the body are cut before the paint process begins. This
helps to reduce the potential for corrosion. All interconnecting exterior aluminum
"skins" are also continuously welded.
Body shown after all welds are ground down smooth in preparation
for body work to be performed.
.75" x 3" Solid aluminum bar stock mounting rail welded to 2" x 2" x .
125" floor structure tubing and 2 x 2 x .250 thick aluminum side rails.
EXTERIOR STORAGE
Excellance exterior storage compartments are fabricated with Heavy-duty .
125" aluminum plates, which are fully seam-welded (no spot welding and
caulking or compartments that have been bolted into place) and form
sweep-out style flush floors.
All shelving is brake-formed aluminum and is used with extruded aluminum
unistrut railing that has been welded to the cabinet and compartment walls
for superior strength in shelf mounting.
Each compartment is vented to allow for smooth, easy closing of exterior
compartment doors. All door seals are installed only on the compartment
doors to prevent damage to the door seals.
INTERIOR CABINETS
Excellance utilizes welded aluminum interior cabinets & squad benchs
(standard on all Excellance bodies) fabricated from tubular aluminum and
securely welded (not screwed into place) to the modular framework to
provide an interior which does not squeak, rattle, warp, crack, rot, or
deteriorate unlike wood, plastic, or fiberglass.
Even the wall panels, sub-floor, and ceiling surfaces are fabricated from
aluminum plate to ensure that the patient compartment is safe, durable,
and quiet. All wall panels, ceiling, floor, and all doors are fully insulated with
high-performance insulation to ensure a quiet, temperate environment.
Excellance offers literally hundred's of all-aluminum interior cabinet
configurations to suit any patient care situation. Interior lighting, inverters,
generators, climate-controlled IV/Drug cabinets, special seating, cot
mounts, oxygen/suction systems, Bio-hazard storage, etc. can be provided
to meet even the most demanding requirements.
All interior cabinets are welded into the structure and are primed
and then painted.
Entire floor structure has aluminum sub floor plating sealed, then
insulated with Polystyrene planking and thick Coosa board is
installed prior to the final floor covering of choice.
CABINET DOORS
Excellance provides additional value and safety to our customers.
Our hinged interior cabinet doors are fabricated with a welded
tubular aluminum door frame to which the Formica/Lexan is applied
and then finished with aluminum trimwork.
The cabinet doors are then securely fastened into the cabinet
structure and door frames using full-length stainless steel hinges
and aluminum rivets, thereby eliminating possibilities of cracked
Lexan and hinges that constantly require tightening.
Sliding Lexan doors slide in a felt-lined rattle free aluminum track with
full length extruded aluminum handles making them easy to open.
Most exterior warning light holes are cut before paint to help
prevent corrosion.
All holes for wiring utilize grommets for wire and hose protection.
