Garlic has antimicrobial properties that fight off
bacteria, viruses and fungi. It also helps bring
down the body temperature and increases
expectoration to clear phlegm out of the chest
and lungs.

Cayenne pepper helps release mucous from

the respiratory passage and aids in the healthy
development of mucus membranes.
Sesame seeds helps expel phlegm.

Fenugreek with its mucolytic properties helps

break up congestion. Furthermore, it induces
sweating which reduces fever and helps
remove toxins from the body.

Vegetable Juices boost immunity, dissolve

mucus and aid in detoxification.
Steam helps fight infection and improves
breathing
by
relieving
coughing
and
congestion.

Increasing awareness and treatment

Prepare Health Teams of 4 locals who will be provided training
of operating and maintaining medical boats which will be
equipped with basic medical equipment like oximeters and
antibiotics like Amoxillin. They will train the local VHTs and also
do surveys. Each trip may last from 10-12 days in which they
will cover 4-5 Villages.
Since locals prefer riding bicycles in Uganda, a wooden stretcher
can be fixed to a bicycle to form a bicycle ambulance to meet the
emergency requirements for taking victims to hospitals.
Inter college competitions organised among the trained selected
colleges on the basis of reach which they get in accessing
villages with good population density where they educate locals
on difference between malaria and pneumonia, its vaccine and
why timely medical check-up is important.
Parents should be educated about the use of timers to perform a regular respiratory condition check up of
their infants.61.1% of the population belong to the age group of 0-19yrs, this show that there has been a
sudden explosion of population without proper planning and since women are the major bread earners,
they have the added pressure of maintaining both home and work. Awareness about pneumonia can be
created by conducting skits by college and school students who will have good reach in the regional
districts.
Conduct awareness programs near churches and mosque with the local heads or clergymen and give
hands on training to their staff to differentiate between pneumonia and malaria.
Ad campaigns of 30-40 seconds which will target audience across different radios stations. They will be
floated every hour and material will contain information about pneumonia, timers, prevention and
treatments. The same will be covered by Daily Monitor and New Vision, the two widely read newspapers.
