USE OF MX ROAD

SOFTWARE FOR
HIGHWAY DESIGN

WHY WE HAVE CHOOSEN THIS

PROJECT?

At present, all over the world MX ROAD is used.

By using this software, design can be done as per
National and International standards.
It gives edge to the designer to design and
rectify the fault immediately.
With the help of this software, time and
man
power is saved.

NON URBAN ROADS

Expressways:
The function of expressways is to cater for movement of
heavy volumes of vehicle traffic at high speeds.

National Highways:
National Highways are main highways running
through the length & breadth of India ,
connecting major ports , foreign highway etc .

NON URBAN ROADS

State Highways:
State

Highways are arterial roads of a state, connecting

up with the NH of adjacent state .

Major District Roads:

Major

District Roads are important roads with in a

district serving areas of production & markets.

URBAN ROADS
Arterial Roads:
This

system of streets, along with expressways where they

exist, serves as the principal network for through traffic flows.

Sub-arterial Roads:
These

are functionally similar to arterial streets but with

somewhat lower level of travel mobility.

URBAN ROADS
Collector Streets:
The

function of collector streets is to collect traffic from

local streets and feed it to the arterial and sub-arterial
streets or vice versa.

Local Streets :
These

are intended primarily to provide access to abutting

properly and normally do not carry large volumes of traffic .

RURAL ROADS
Other District Roads :

These are roads serving rural areas of production and

providing them with outlet to market centres, tehsil
headquarters.

Village Roads :

These are roads connecting villages or group of villages

with each other and to the nearest road of a higher
category.

MX Road

Bentley MXROAD is an advanced, stringbased modeling tool that enables the rapid and
accurate design of all road types.
With MXROAD you can quickly create design
alternatives to achieve the ideal road system.
Upon selection of the final design alternative,
MXROAD automates much of the design
detailing process, saving the user time and
money.

Advantages of MX Road

Rapid, Accurate Design of All Road Types in 3D

Full Alignment Design Capability

Proven Technology

Easy import and export support facilities in software

Aim & Utility

To design a road stretch using IRC Codes & MX Road Software.
The codes used for this project are given below:
(a) IRC 37-2001(Guidelines for the design of flexible pavement)
(b) IRC 37-2012(Guidelines for the design of flexible pavement)
(c) IRC 86-1983(Geometric design standards for urban roads in
plains)
The utility & extension of such type of projects can prove very
handy for consultants , engineers , organisations like P.W.D. ,
C.P.W.D. , M.E.S. , B.R.O. , N.H.A.I. , M.O.S.T. , C.R.R.I. & so
on.
Feasibility reports on designing the road stretch can be
developed.

WORK DONE TILL NOW

We met with the sir and decided the project.

We read some research papers,
IRC 86-1983 & IRC 37-2001.
We tied up with a company and work their for 4
days and got the survey data and traffic data
from there.
We have made the plan and cross section of the
road in MX Road.

DESIGN STEP FOR ROAD

PLAN

We take the survey data and plot the points with the
help of it in MX Road.
After that, we will do triangulation of that area.
Then, we make master string in horizontal design which
is the centre line of the road.
Then, we will give vertical profile to the road.
After that, we will design median and carriageway of
the road.
Now, we will provide super elevation in the road.
Then, we will design shoulders of the road.
