Background

Phonemic awareness is important because it

is critical to reading and spelling success. A


childs phonemic awareness is a powerful
predictor of the likelihood of reading and
spelling success. Children who can not
distinguish and manipulate the sounds within
spoken words have difficulty recognizing and
learning the necessary print/sound
relationship that is critical to proficient reading
and spelling success. If a child has poor
phonemic awareness it is difficult for them to
discover the necessary link between print and

Phonics in KSSR
In KSSR, phonics is really being stressed

during the lesson. Children learn reading by


associating the sound of English and the
letters or combining of letters that produce
them.

Background

One of the task from English Language


Department for Postgraduate Teacher Training is
designing teaching aid or game that is effective
and suitable to improve the students proficiency
in English Language.

Pedagogical Innovation
Competition Institute Level
(Students Level)

Every semester, IPGKIK will organize the


innovation competition among the students
and the lecturers. The teaching aids and
games will be competing with each other,
with the guidance from a lecturer to be the
mentor for the group.
English Department has the highest numbers
of participants in every year competition and
they even won the top place.

Implementations
On 9 April 2014, PISMP TESL Cohort 3

students have conducted the game for our


Bina Insan at SK Bandar Sunway, Selangor.
We think that our activity is successful and

able to attract the students attention as it


was really fun. We had a really good cooperation from the students and most of the
students said that the activity is really
meaningful to them as there are a lot that
they could learn from this activity.
