RPM measurements
o Estimate the RPM for the drone propellers at a
hover. ____
Was your estimate high or low. ____
o Predict the RPM during ascent. ____
Will it be the same? ____
Higher or lower? ____

Drone RPM (revolutions per minute)

RPM = 9,000-12,000
The Phantom 3 Standard drone uses a
maximum of 12,000 rpm when taking off
and approximately 9,000 rpm during flight.
Based on the information above answer the
following questions.
1.) How many revolutions would the propellers make if it were flown for the
maximum battery life of 25 minutes? ____
2.) Since this drone is a quadcopter, how many total revolutions are
completed in the 25 minutes? ____
3.) If you were to fly the drone for 1 hour, how many revolutions? ____
4.) If the drone was ascending for 2 minutes (12,000 rpm) and then flying
for 10 minutes(9,000 rpm), how many revolutions would be made by each
propeller? ___

b.) Mr. Wiedrick changed the size of the circle making
the diameter 16.8 meters, find this circumference.

Mr. Wiedricks drone has been hacked! The evil hacker

has locked him the force field of his latest drone flight.
He flew to a height of 22.3 m and had a radius of 6.92
m. Find the area of the force field that surrounds Mr.
Wiedrick.

a.) Johnny Knucklehead is flying his drone to
measure the size of the cylinder shaped pool he
wants for his back yard. He flies the drone to a
height of 8 feet and has the drone circle him with
a radius of 12.5 feet. How many cubic feet of
water will he need to fill his dream pool? ____
b.) If 1 cubic foot equals 7.48 gallons, calculate
how many gallons will be required to fill his pool.

The question the students
needed to answer was
how far is it from the
teachers car to the top of
the school building.
The drone can be flown to find the
distance of the base and the
height. Students can apply
Pythagoreans Theorem (a2 + b2 =
c2) to calculate the distance from
where they launch the drone, to the
top of the measurement.

The drones battery just ran out and we still have another task to
accomplish! The height of the school building only measures to the top
of the second floor. We need to know the height of the gymnasium which
is 60 feet beyond the top of the second floor. Since we are able to see
the top of the gymnasium from where we launched the drone, we can
use the same information we have already found. Then find the distance
the drone would have to travel from the student to the top of the
gymnasium.

Telemetryis an automated communications process by
which measurements and other data are collected at remote
or inaccessible points and transmitted to receiving equipment
for monitoring. The word is derived from Greek roots: tele =
remote, and metron = measure.
