exposure to working in an organization
and also a flavor of the functional area
they are interested in pursuing later in
their careers

Research
methodology

Research Design
Research design is the strategy, the plan, and the
structure of conducting a research project. Research
design is considered as a "blueprint" for research,
dealing with at least following problems:Which questions to study?
Which data are relevant?
What data to collect?
How to analyze the results?

Sample Design
Type of universe
Sample frame (source list)
Sample Size.
Period and place of study
Type of sampling:
Simple Random Sampling, Systematic Sampling,

Stratified Sampling, Convenience Sampling,

Judgmental Sampling etc.
Types of data (Primary and Secondary data).

Methods of data collection

Some commonly used methods.

Primary data collection methods :
Questionnaires.
Interviews .
Observation.
Secondary data collection methods:
Print journals.
Annual report of companies.
Magazines and periodicals.
Government publications

Characteristics Of good
questionnaire
Keep the questions short, simple and to the point; avoid all unnecessary

words.
Ask questions that the respondent can answer. Hypothetical questions
should be avoided.
Avoid calculations and questions that require a lot of memory work, for
example, How many people stayed in your hotel last year?
Vacuous words or phrases should be avoided. Generally, usually, or
normally are imprecise terms with various meanings. They should be
replaced with quantitative statements
State units required but do not aim for too high degree of accuracy. For
instance, use an interval rather than an exact figure:
How much did you earn last year?
Less than Rs 1,00,000 [ ] ,
Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 [ ]
Avoid questions of personal character or related to personal wealth.
Questions should be proceeded in a logical sequence from easy to difficult.

Tools and techniques For analysis of data

The appropriate selection
of statistical tools i.e.
parametric
and
nonparametric, depends on the
research
design
and
sample size. Data analysis
must be supported by
relevant tables, charts,
graphs etc.
