FOA TUESDAY, AUGUST 9 ,

2016
TH

Write into the day!

Brainstorm a list of possible topics that you
would want to write an essay about. These can
be anything: Pokemon GO, haunted houses,
real-life zombies, dogs, favorite season, different
country, etc.
You should have at least 10 topics by the end of
your three minutes! Be ready to share (why you
want to write about these, etc).

WHY AM I HERE?????

WELL
because its illegal for you not to be.
Me too!

OTHER THAN THAT

Our focus this school year will be learning and developing our
skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and
listeners. The development and mastery of these important
literary skills not only is important to achieving success in the
LRW classroom, it is a critical component of achieving success
in other school subjects, building strong relationships with
others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult.
Basically, the quality of life you experience now thorough
adulthood will depend a lot on how well you read, write, and
communicate with others. Im gonna make you a baller at all
of those.

SPEAKING OF BEING HERE

Be on TIME!!!!!
A tardy will get you a WORKING LUNCH.
I dont want that; you dont want that.
Lets all be on time.
You have to sign the tardy log if you walk in late.

If it is an emergency, ask Miss Ellis. Raise your hand. You must sign out on the log
by the door. If you go to the bathroom every class period, you will not be allowed
to go anymore.

What if I need to go to the nurse???

Ask Miss Ellis. Raise your hand.

What if my boyfriend is texting me and I need to text him back???

WHAT ARE INTERACTIVE

NOTEBOOKS???
Hey! Im so glad you asked. You came to the right place.
You guys
are really smart, you know that?? Really super extra glad
youre here.
An interactive notebook is a place for you to do your
FOA, take
notes, write, and, basically, INTERACT.
I will write comments in your notebook and take a grade!

Randomly! When I feel like it!

HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHAT

YOUR GRADE IS?
Wellyoure all gonna make 100s.
But if not
You can check on Jupiter grades.
There is a link on my website.
Your grade will be 60% assessments and 40% class
work
This includes interactive notebooks!! Yay!!

BRAIN BREAKS!
Did you know your brain learns information better when you are
MOVING?
Did you also know that you are required to have 90 minutes of
activity in class per
week??
Crazy.
Lets talk about brain breaks.

FOA 8/10/16
Answer the two following questions:

1) How will I know what work I missed when I miss

Ms. Es class?
2) How will Ms. E grade our interactive notebooks?

SEATING CHARTS
Where you are sitting today is where you will sit for the next week.

You will get a new seating chart on the PowerPoint ev+96e

WHERE DO I PUT THIS

MASTERPIECE THAT I
WROTE?!!!????111!!1
Good question!!
Have I told you yet that you guys are smart?
There are turn in trays in the back of the room. Theres
one for each class period.
But before you turn it inis your name on it??? Your
class
period? The date?
Lets practice.

HEADING YOUR PAPER

WHAT WILL YOU NEED FOR

CLASS?

VOICE NORMS
0=NO VOICE
1=The person beside you can only hear what youre saying (i.e., a
whisper)
2=ONLY the people at your table can hear you. If I can hear you
outside your
table, then you are a 3!
3=The next table can hear what youre saying.
If you cant hear what someone is saying, ECHO!!! Say it loud!
(Talking in class is encouraged.)

LETS PRACTICE!
Using voice norm one, tell your partner
at your table a joke.
Using voice norm two, discuss with your
table which joke was the funniest.

GROUP NORMS
Everyone contributes! (no I dont feel like its)
Everyone will be responsible for turning in their own work. If I notice that you are not
contributing or your answers seem like you just copied them, then you will lose points
on your work.

Keep your voice at a 2!

Everyone needs to be able to hear their groups without disturbing the class next to us.
No one wants to work by themselves!

On task all of the time!

Everyone in your group should be on task. If someone in your group is not on task, it is
the leaders role to get them back on task. If not, your whole group grade will suffer.

Respect your groupmates opinions.

No calling anyone stupid. Self-explanatory.

GROUP ROLES:
A=Group leader (Is everyone on task?)
B=Note taker (Have we written everything down?)
C=Time keeper (Are we going to finish on time?)
D=Presenter (Can we relay our work to the class?)
E=Errand runner/question asker (Do we need any extra
supplies?)
If your group does not have an E, work together as the
errand runner.

motivated?
Write at least three sentences.

WRITE INTO THE DAY!

8/10/16

Choose one of the above pictures to write about. Imagine

yourself in this place. Now write three things: 1) What do
you see in this place? 2) What do you smell in this place?

NOW
Brainstorm your own list of places.
These places can be your favorite place to be, a place
where you have a good memory, or a place youve
created in your mind.
Be creative!
Take two minutes to brainstorm as many places as
you can!
Share out with your OPTIMISM partner when I say GO!
