Science investigation is an orderly method which is used to

investigate a problem or an event.

1. Identify The Problem

The problem is identified and stated by asking question.
The problem usually arised from an observation.

2. Identify And Control The Variables

3 types of variables :
i. Manipulated variable : Independent variable
ii. Responding variable : dependent variable
iii. Fixed variable : controlled variable

3. Form A Hypothesis
A hypothesis is a simple statement which is the suggestion to
the answer of the problem.
It is about the relationship between the manipulated variable
and the responding variable.

4. Plan The Investigation

Determine the materials and apparatus needed, the place and
the time to conduct the experiment.
Plan suitable and systematic procedure.

5. Conducting The Investigation

Carry out the investigation according to the procedure planned.

6.Tabulating Data
Data are collected and tabulated by making quantitative and
qualitative observations.

7. Analyse The Data

the collected data are elaborated in detail.
The relationship of various types of variables in the experiment
is determined.

8. Interpret The Data

the data are organised and interpreted logically and honestly.
The data can be presented in the form of a bar chart,
histogram, line graph, pie chart and so on.

9. Make A Conclusion

based on the analysis and data interpretation, make a

rational conclusion.

The conclusion is either accept or reject the hypothesis.

If the earlier made hypothesis is rejected, a new one has to
be made and a new investigation has to be planned.

10.Write A Report
A report must be written after the scientific investigation is
completed.
The report should contain aim, problem statement,
hypothesis, variable, apparatus and materials, procedure,
result, discussion and conclusion.
