ABSTRACT
1.

2.
3.

4.

In this project, we present the concept of transmitting power without

using wires through magnetic induction effect from one place to
another.
WPT uses resonators to wirelessly transfer power safely and efficiently to
mobile devices and consumer electronics.
We investigate whether the physical phenomenon of long lifetime
resonant electromagnetic waves can be used to transfer energy efficiently
over non-negligible distances, even in the presence of extra
environmental objects.
We establish that the "strong coupling" between two coils of medium
range distance and this could be efficient for medium range wireless
energy transfer.

WHAT IS WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION

1.
2.
3.

4.
5.

Transfer of electricity without using connections between input and load

is termed as wireless electricity.
This is not like wireless transmission of signals which we used in the cell
phones.
In cell phones signals are sent in the form of micro waves whereas in this
mode of transmission electricity is transferred in the form of magnetic
rays.
These rays are not harmful to humans.
The transfer of energy is mid range compared to direct transmission.

NEED FOR WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION

1.

Now-a-days there is a rapid increase of electronic goods like cell

phones ,laptops ,I-pods etc., which rely on the chemical storage of
energy by the battery which need to be recharged frequently .As these
are becoming daily needs to the present generation wireless energy
transfer i.e, witricity would be useful for many applications as these
things need mid range energy.

EXISTING SYSTEM
1.
2.
3.
4.

5.

6.

Previously the device has small air gap at a few centimeters.

Recently improved to approximately 10 cm by increasing its frequency to
20-40 kHz.
The efficiency drops severely when there is a misalignment between its
transmitting and receiving coils.
Here the range of MOSFET used in the transmitter section is
IRFP2503 +3 turns of 14 gauge coil is used.470 ohm resistor has been
used in this circuit. In receiver section 0.44 micro farad has been used.
Existing system circuit contains 470ohm resistor and IRFP250 MOSFET
in which the voltage and current ratings lie in the range of 60v, 75A,
150W, 3+3 turns of 14 gauge wire has been used.
Capacitor in the range of .44uf and 12v bulb has been used.

PROPOSED SYSTEM

1. Recently, a highly efficient midrange WPT technology using

magnetic resonance coupling was rediscovered.
2. It has efficiencies of approximately 90% within 1m and 45%
at 2 m.

LITERATURE SURVEY
PAPER 1
TITLE: The Mutual Inductance of Two Thin Coaxial Disk Coils in Air (2011)
AUTHOR: Slobodan Babic, Sheppard Salon, Fellow, IEEE, and Cevdet Akyel,
Member, IEEE

DESCRIPTION:
This paper presents an efficient method for computing the mutual inductance
between two thin coaxial disk coils in air. The derived principal semi- analytical
expressions involve complete elliptic integrals of the first and second kind,
Heumans Lambda function and three terms that have to be computed numerically.
The presented method is compared to the filament method where both conductors
are approximated by Maxwells filamentary coils. The mutual inductance values
(for a chosen case) computed by both methods are in good agreement. However,
the method presented in this work exceeds by far the filament method in its
precision and computational efficiency. In another example, the computed mutual
inductance is validated by measurement.

PAPER 2
TITLE: Optimization of Wireless Power Transmission through
Resonant Coupling (2010)
AUTHOR: Yong-Hae Kim, Seung-Youl Kang, Sanghoon Cheon, MyungLae Lee, Jong-Moo lee,and Taehyoung Zyung Electronics and
Telecommunications Research Institute, Daejeon, Korea
DESCRIPTION:
We investigated and optimization condition for a maximum power
transmission between coils wirelessly. Due to the resonant coupling nature
of the system, for the highest power transmission, there is an optimum
distance between the power (receiving) coil and sending (load) coil for a
fixed distance between the sending coils and receiving coil. This effect
cannot be explained by a conventional magnetic induction theory. We made
a model of a four-coil system employing a complex coupling constant to
explain the effect.

SCOPE OF THIS PROJECT

ADVANTAGES
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

An advantage is that we can produce electricity anywhere without wires

The power can be delivered in any direction i.e, omnidirectional
Most common things in our surroundings do not interact with these
magnetic fields and thus not harmful to other living beings
Significant decluttering of office space
No need for meter rooms and electrical closets.
Reduction of e-waste by eliminating the need for power cords
Need more light in your office, no need for electrician. Simply place the
lamp where ever you need it.

CONCLUSION
1.

In this project, distance in the range of 25-30cm is used to operate the

application. This could be a prototype model and can be used in the future
at the increased distance ranges. Our home appliances generally suffer
hazards due to lightening and thundering effects. Any short circuit
condition causes failures of the appliance. Using magnetic induction
effect, all these problems can be overcome. This can be used in the future
for industrial applications to avoid the hazards caused by any type of
electrical faults.
