COMPARATIVE TYPE

OF RESEARCH PROBLEM

COMPARATIVE TYPE
This type of problems intend to
determine the difference between
two groups or variations among
three or more groups.

A. Comparing two groups in one

factor/variable/comparing two factors/variables in
one group.

Example 1
Level 1:
What is the difference between male and
female teachers in terms of their values?
Level 2:
To what extent do male and female teachers
differ in terms of their values?

A. Comparing two groups in one

factor/variable/comparing two factors/variables in
one group.

Example 1
Hypothesis:
There is no significant difference between male
and female teachers in terms of their values.
Objectives:
To determine the extent of difference between
male and female teachers in terms of their
values.

Example 2
Level 1:
What is the difference male and female
students in terms of their performance in
problem solving in Physics?
Level 2:
To what extent do male and female students
differ in terms of their performance in problem
solving in Physics?

Comparative Type
Example 2
Hypothesis:
There is no significant difference between male
and female students in terms of their
performance in problem solving in Physics.
Objectives:
To determine the extent of difference between
male and female students in terms of their
performance in problem solving in Physics.

A. Comparing two groups in one

factor/variable/comparing two factors/variables in
one group.

Try this:
What is the difference between
chalk-board method and
technology based learning method
in increasing the academic
performance of the students?

Example 3
Level 2:
To what extent do the achievements in College
Algebra of first year students vary when
exposed to different teaching strategies?
Level 1:
What is the variation of achievements in
College Algebra of First year students when
exposed to different teaching strategies?

Comparing more than two

variables in one group
Hypothesis:
There is no significant variation in the
achievements in College Algebra of First Year
students when exposed to different teaching
strategies.
