Multiplication of Whole Numbers

 Read and analyze:

Each of the 45 servers of Excellent Garments
can make 1325 pairs of socks in a week. How
many pairs can they make in all?

How did we arrive at the final product?
To multiply whole numbers, multiply each
digit of the multiplicand by each digit of the
multiplier. Start with the ones digit of the
multiplier. Add the partial products to get the
final product.

 Something to think about

Elmer counted 9 pigs and cows. He
counted 10 cows and horses. He counted
16 animals in all. How many of each
animal did he count ?
Who am I? Multiply me by myself and Im
almost fifty. Though Im a little odd, Im
a bit pretty nifty?

orchard. If there were 696 chicos in the
basket, how many chicos should each
boy get as his share?

 How do we divide numbers?

Define and identify dividend, divisor,
quotient.
Where do we start dividing?
Division is the inverse of multiplication. It
may also be defined as repeated
subtraction.
STEPS:
Write the Problem using divisor dividend notation.
Determine the largest number that can be multiplied by
the divisor to obtain a product that is less than or equal
to the dividend. Write the number above the dividend.
Multiply that number by the divisor.
Subtract the product obtained in step 3 from the
dividend. The result is the remainder.
