WHAT IS THEATRE?
Theatre is a collaborative form of fine art that uses

live performers to present the experience of a real or


imagined event before a live audience in a specific
place.

THEATER ARTS
The art of staging a play or drama.
Also refers to the building designed to hold

plays or dramatic performances.


It has changed throughout its history. The
changes reflect the growth and change of
drama and culture.
Ancient Greece is the birthplace of the
THEATER.

ART
Theatre is an art complete with

creativity,

imagination, elegance, power, &


aesthetic harmony.
Meant to capture the human spirit
Integrating our emotions with our
intellect

IMPERSONATION

Unlike other forms of art - poetry, painting,

sculpture, music, cabaret acts the theatre


involves actors impersonating characters

AMPHITHEATER
Was built in a hollowed-out area of a hillside in a

semi-circular form.

The audience sits on bench made of stone and

wood.

The center is made of round stones,


And the area is called the ORCHESTRA.
The speaker in the Greek drama and the chorus

stand in the orchestra.

Another necessary element of theater is the space in which performers


oraudiences come together.

Text

A final element essential to theater is thetextthat is performed, and


itmust be present for theater to occur.

STAGE

It is a raised platform behind the orchestra.

DRESSING ROOM

Another building behind the orchestra that is a dressing room

for actors.

ACTORS

Men wearing masks which show the characters they are

playing.

WHAT DOES THEATER


MEAN?
A building

Metaphorically it can mean a place where surgeries or wars

take place

The players (and owners, managers, and technicians) who

perform in a space
