USDA MyPlate
The U.S. Department of Agriculture MyPlate is a tool that gui
des Americans in selecting which foods to eat and how muc
h to eat each day to be healthy. MyPlate contains five food g
roups: fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods and dairy. Yo
u should make half your plate fruits and vegetables.

Nutritional Importance
Eat, Sleep, Grow! Rinse and Repeat!
Eating Vegetables often will supply your body with the
necessary vitamins and mineral in order to grow stronger,
heal faster, sleep better, and stay sharper.
Examples of the many vitamins and mineral include:
Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Potassium, Calcium,
Magnesium, Vitamin C

Incorporating Fruits & Veggies


Tips:
Look for pre-portioned or pre-cut fruits and vegetables on s
ale if slicing and chopping is a challenge.
Keep ready-to-serve and easy-to-prepare foods available.
Put your fruit and vegetables out on the counter or in a pro
minent position in the refrigerator, so that you'll be more lik
ely to eat them.
Trying a new fruit or vegetable each week.
Choosing fruits or veggies as a snack.

Food Safety
Guidelines for Safe Food Handling

Keep it safe; refrigerate or freeze all perishable food.


Wash hands with warm soapy water before, during and
after preparing food.
Be sure to thoroughly cook all food.
Separate - Dont Cross Contaminate. Cross-contamination
is the transfer of harmful bacteria to food from other foods,
cutting boards, utensils, etc., if they are not handled
properly.
Follow the 2 Hour Rule: Dont allow perishable foods to sit
on the counter for more than 2 hours.

Physical Activity
Regular physical activity in children and adolescents has big benefits. It not
only makes them healthier and fit now, but it lowers their risk of chronic
diseases and improves their chances of becoming healthy adults.
Physical activity is any form of exercise or movement of the body that uses
energy. Some of your daily life activitiesdoing active chores around the
house, yard work, walking the dogare examples.
Children and adolescents should have 60
minutes (1 hour) or more of physical activity
daily.
