Individual calendar sharing with external parties
App extensions for OWA

Objectives

The Organization page is new to Office 365:

Used for sharing calendar and contact information
between federated trusts
Provides access to Apps (extensions that can be run from
within OWA)
Organizational relationships create a link between onpremises servers and the cloud
The Organization page tabs include:
Sharing
Apps

Sharing

Organization Sharing:
When organizations create a federated trust, Organization
Sharing can enable Free/Busy and other mailbox
information access between organizations
This is a core component of a Hybrid deployment

Individual Sharing:
Allows users to share calendar and contacts with external
organizations

Organizatio
n
Relationshi
ps

Organization relationships are one-to-one relationships between

two Exchange organizations
o Rather than requiring a complex Active Directory trust
configuration between the two organizations, both parties are
just required to establish a one-time federation trust with the
Microsoft Federation Gateway
o Requires a minimum of Exchange 2010 SP1 Client Access
Servers to exist in each Exchange organization

When you create an organization relationship with an external

organization, users in the external organization can access your
users' free/busy information, MailTips, and other Exchange
features
o No replication of GAL information is required
o Outlook 2010 and OWA users can simply enter the SMTP
address of an external recipient when scheduling meetings in
order to see the Free/Busy information

(continued)

When creating an organization relationship, you can specify

one of the following three levels of calendar availability
access:
o No free/busy access
o Free/busy access with time only
o Free/busy access with time, plus subject and location

Exchange 2010/2013 connects to the AutoDiscover Web

service published by the external organization to obtain the
Availability service endpoint which is then used to retrieve the
information

For Exchange Online, a trust with the Microsoft Federation

Gateway is automatically configured when the tenant is
created

Sharing
Policies

Sharing policies enable user-established, one to one sharing of both

calendar and contact folders with different types of external users

This is slightly different from the functionality provided by

organization relationships, which enable the sharing of free/busy
information with all recipients in other federated Exchange
organizations

Sharing policies work independently from organization relationships

Organization relationships are not required for sharing policies to

work
o
o

Only a federation trust is required

The MFG contains information about the destination domains
AutoDiscover end point which is in turn used by the Client Access
Server to retrieve the Exchange Web Services end point to obtain the
user data

Sharing
Policies
(continued)

This information can be seen by running

Get-FederationInformation Domain contoso.com
Where contoso.com is the domain you wish to share
information with
The administrator can control which domains to share with,
and how much information users are allowed to share via the
sharing policies

Apps

Apps are extensions that can bring additional functionality to

your Outlook Web App experience
Extensions can be installed by Users or Administrators
Administrators can install extensions and enable them for
their entire tenant
Extensions installed by users directly are only available to
those users
Apps can be downloaded from the Office store or added from
a file
There are currently five apps available to all users by default:
o Bing Maps
o Suggested Meetings
o Action Items
o Unsubscribe
o My Templates
