I thank God. when I remember
you constantly in my prayers.
As I remember your tears, I long

TO PRAY FOR PEOPLE
So Peter was kept in prison; but
earnest prayer for him was made
to God by the church.

MATTHEW 18
Conflict among the disciples
At that time the disciples came
to Jesus, saying, "Who is the
greatest in the kingdom of
heaven?"

And calling to him a child, he put


him in the midst of them
and said, "Truly, I say to you,
unless you turn and become
like children, you will never enter
the kingdom of heaven.
(Matthew 18:2, 3)
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN


1. Innocence?? MORE than that!
2. No desire for POWER or
STATUS
and said, "Truly, I say to you,

unless you turn and become


like children, you will never enter
the kingdom of heaven.
(Matthew 18:3)

RECEIVE A LITTLE ONE


Whoever humbles himself like
this child is the greatest in the
kingdom of heaven.
"Whoever receives one such child
in my name receives me,
(Matthew 18:4, 5)
ACCEPT AS TREMENDOUSLY
VALUABLE EVERY DISCIPLE!

DO NOT CAUSE A LITTLE ONE


TO SIN!
but whoever causes one of these
little ones who believe in me to sin,
it would be better for him to have a
great millstone fastened around
his neck and to be drowned in the
depth of the sea.
(Matthew 18:6)
RELATIONSHIPS!

THE MOST INSIGNIFICANT ARE


VALUABLE TO HEAVEN!
"See that you do not despise one
of these little ones. For I tell you
that in heaven their angels always
see the face of my Father who is in
heaven.
(Matthew 18:10)

OUR DEEP CONCERN FOR ALL


OF CHRISTS FOLLOWERS
What do you think? If a man has
a hundred sheep, and one of
them has gone astray, does he
not leave the ninety-nine on the
mountains and go in search of the
one that went astray?
(Matthew 18:12)

So it is not

the will of my
Father who is in heaven that
one of these little ones
should perish.
(Matthew 18:14)
NO ONE IS DISPENSABLE!

RELATIONSHIPS INVOLVE
DISCIPLINE

WHY IS MATTHEW 18:15-18 IN


THIS SETTING OR CONTEXT?

THE NEED TO FIND THE LOST
SHEEP!

"If your brother sins against you,


go and tell him his fault, between
you and him alone. If he listens to
you, you have gained your
brother.
(Matthew 18:15)
WE MUST REGAIN THE BROTHER!

But if he does not listen, take

one or two others along


with you, that every charge may
be established by the evidence of
two or three witnesses.
(Matthew 18:16)

If he refuses to listen to them,


tell it to the church. And if he
refuses to listen even to the
church, let him be to you as a
Gentile and a tax collector.
(Matthew 18:17)

KEEP ON TRYING AND


TRYING!

FORGIVE SEVENTY TIMES


SEVEN
Then Peter came up and said to

him, "Lord, how often will my


brother sin against me, and I
forgive him? As many as
seven times?"
(Matthew 18:21)

Jesus said to him, "I do not say

to you seven times, but


seventy times seven.
(Matthew 18:22)
JESUS IS SAYING:
Do not drive someone away from
Gods kingdom by your
FAILURE TO FORGIVE!

THE UNMERCIFUL SERVANT


(Matthew 18:23-35)
And in anger his master delivered
him to the jailers, until he should
pay all his debt.
So also my heavenly Father will
do to every one of you, if you do
not forgive your brother from your
heart. (Matthew 18:34,35)

WE MUST BE
OUR
BROTHERS
KEEPER!

SEARCH DILIGENTLY FOR NEW
WAYS TO SERVE OUR FELLOW
DISCIPLES
As each has received

a gift,
use it to serve one another,
as good stewards of God's varied
grace:
(I Peter 4:10)
