be used provided that specimens so heat treated are tested in accordance with NC2200,NC-2400 AND NC-4300#.
--c)PWHT of certain materials at lower temperature for longer periods of time in
accordance with Table-NC-4622.4 -1,
--For P No.1 materials impact test requirements for PQR shall be made using the same
min. temp. & increased min. holding time,
-- Welding procedures,qualified as per table-NC-4622.1-1 & NC4622.4-1 are also

Requirements for
Exempting PWHT of Nozzle
to Components Welds and
Branch-to Run Piping
Welds
exempted from PWHT in Table 4622.7(B)-1 need not be given a PWHT if the
requirements of (a) are met for partial penetration and (b) are met for full
penetration welds.
(a) The partial penetration welds are made with A-No.8 or non-air-hardening NICr-Fe weld metal after:
1.) The ferritic materials to be joined are buttered or built-up with A-No.8 or nonair-hardening NI-Cr-Fe weld metal having a min. thickness of 6mm;and
2.) The HAZ of the buttered or built-up ferritic materials are post weld heattreated in accordance with NC-4620 without the PWHT exemptions being
applied,prior to making the final welds

Piping Welds
2.) The A-No1 or A-No.2 weld metal build up/buttering is post weld heat treated in accordance with NC-4620
for P-No.1 or P-No.3 materials without the PWHT exemption being applied;
3.) The welds do not penetrate through the component or run pipe thickness;
4.) Weld metal with A-No1 or A-No.2 analysis is used to join the nozzle or branch pipe of P-No.1 material to
the weld buildup or buttering;
5.) The nominal thickness of the weld joining the nozzle or branch pipe to the component or run pipe does not
exceed 38mm, and the maximum reported C content of the nozzle or branch pipeing connection does
not exceed 0.30%;
6.) a 95C min. preheat is maintained during welding whenever the nominal thickness of the weld exceeds:
(a).32mm and the max. reported C content of the material of the nozzle or branch pipe is 0.30% or less; or
(b)19mm and the max.reported C content of material of the nozzle or branch pipe connection exceeds 0.30%

-Limited weld repairs to vessels of P-No.3 materials and A-No.1,A-No.2.A-No.10 or A-No.11 weld filler metal
(SECION-IX,QW-442) may be made without PWHT or after the final PWHT, provided the following
requirements are met:
(a)
Examination of the area to be repaired : before repair area shall be examined by MT or DP in accordance
with NC-5110 and shall meet the NC-5340 or NC-5350 standards,

Weld Repair to
Vessels
(b)
Max. extent of repair : a repair shall not exceed 6500mm2 in surface area and shall not be greater in depth
than 50% of the base metal or weld thickness or 13mm,whichever is less.
(c)
1.) Procedures and welders in accordance with Section-IX/SMAW & low hydrogen covered electrodes
2.) The largest electrode diameter shall be 4mm and bead width shall not exceed four times the electrode
diameter.
