What is IEC 61850 Open Communication?

Basics:

Ethernet 100 MBps

Station Bus 61850-8-1

Process Bus 61850-9-2

Bay-to-bay communication (GOOSE)

Common Object Modeling (logical nodes)

and Configuration Language (SCL)

Much more than a protocol:

Combining the best properties in a new way...

Modularization and structuring of data

Standardized Logical Nodes

Mapping of functions in IEDs

Data Communication using IEC 61850

IEC 61850 divides data in Logical Groupings.
In this example:
Protection data (the TimeOverCurrent has picked up),
Switchgear data (CB is closed) and
Measurement data (values for V and I)

Station
computer

This IED uses data from three groups to supervize the CB1.
