WOOD DUST PYROLYSIS

USING ASPEN PLUS
SIMULATION AND ITS
INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION

INTRODUCTION

The contents of gas contains mainly H2,

CO,CO2,H2O
The liquid phase is called Tar.
Cellulose, Hemicelluloses and lignin along with
lesser amounts of Extractive , moisture content
are used as FEED in the reactor

Process of thermal decomposition without

access of oxygen (O)

Product of dry pyrolysis are gas with high

heat of combustion, liquid and solid carbon
residue.

Type of dry pyrolysis depend on the

temperature of the process.

Technology, VB-TU Ostrava.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION
The following experiments are performed
Temperature: 300-800 C
Pressure: 101325 Pa
For agricultural waste, for example, typical
temperatures are 450 to 550 C

FLOW SHEET MODEL

Institute of Environmental Technology,

VB-TU Ostrava.

Flow sheet of decomposition of the spruce wood

MODEL EXPLANATION
Flow sheet of syngas production is shown on figure
Spruce wood is decomposed in the RYIELD reactor
to the elements by ultimate analysis.

These elements are going to the RGIBBS reactor,

where syngas is created by thermodynamics
equilibrium for given temperature and pressure.

The solid residue is divided in RGIBBS reactor. The

gaseous mixture is cooled to 20C and divided in
separator (FLASH2) to gas and liquid (only water).

RESULTS FROM ASPEN MODEL

The gas composition is shown on fig. 2.

YIELD OF PRODUCT VS.

TEMPERATURE

It is not same way of gas creating as in batch Pyrolysis in lab with a gradual
increase in temperature.

The amount of solid residue is controlled to 600 C according to the content of fixed
carbon. At higher temperatures, then oxidation of the fixed carbon started and
carbon monoxide is created, as is also seen in increase in the concentration of CO
Increasing content of CO, H2 has big effect on the low heating value of the produced
syngas.

Institute of Environmental Technology,

VB-TU Ostrava.

The important thing is, that these gas are created from elements by thermodynamic
equilibrium at given temperature and pressure.

EXPERIMENTAL PROCESS
DESCRIPTION

Different gas sample was taken from a range of 0 -800 C

Spure wood was used a FEED (100 gms)
Acetone and Water is used in Tubes as an Adsorbent.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION

Residues of incomplete organic Pyrolysis, e.g., from cooking

Biochar improves thesoil textureandecology, increasing its
ability to retain fertilizers and release them slowly.
Pyrolysis of waste tires (WT) is an attractive alternative to new
disposal mechanism , allowing the high energy content of the tire
to be recovered as fuel. Using tires as fuel produce equal energy.
Industrial application of Spure Wood Pyrolysis is used in
Obtaining the hydrocarbon and gases from the FEED.

Institute of Environmental Technology,

VB-TU Ostrava.

Pyrolysis has been used since ancient times for turning wood Into
charcoal on an industrial scale.

PROS N CONS
Cheap and
economical system
Environmentfriendly,
Energy-efficient

Requires drying of
soil
Ineffective in
destroying or
physically separating
inorganic from the
contaminated
medium.
Requiring proper
treatment, storage,
and disposal for
hazardous wastes.

CONCLUSION

It is not same way of gas creating as in batch Pyrolysis in lab with

a gradual increase in temperature.
It is obvious that modeling through decomposition and subsequent
formation of gas based on the thermodynamics equilibrium is not
appropriate for modeling of spruce Pyrolysis.

Institute of Environmental Technology,

VB-TU Ostrava.

The important thing is, that these gas are created from elements
by thermodynamic equilibrium at given temperature and pressure.
