SHOT BLASTING PROCESS

Shot blastingis the operation of forcibly propelling a stream

ofabrasivematerial against a surface under highpressure.
A pressurized fluid, typically air, or acentrifugalwheel is used
to propel the blasting material (often called themedia).
Shot blasting is used to clean, smooth a rough surface,
strengthen (peen) or polish metal.
Shot blasting is used in every industry including aerospace,
automotive, construction, foundry, shipbuilding, rail, and
many others.

Selection of
Abrasive

Aluminum oxide: Fast-cutting action, minimizes damage to thin

materials by eliminating surface stresses.
Glass beads : Produces a clean, bright, satin finish, without
dimensional change of the parts.
Walnut shell : Used as a soft aggregate in removing coating from
surfaces without etching and scratching.
Plastic girt: Acrylic and urea are most suitable for stripping surface
coating while maintaining dimensional tolerance intact.

TYPES OF BLASTING
1.AIRLESS OR WHEEL BLASTING.

2. AIR BLASTING.

SUPER BLASTING.
PRESSURE BLASTING.

3.WET BLASTING.

Methods of shot blasting

Wheel blasting :In wheel blasting, a wheel uses centrifugal force to propel
the abrasive against an object. It is typically categorized as an
airless blasting operation because there is no propellant(gas
or liquid) used. A wheel machine is a high-power, highefficiency blasting operation with recyclable abrasive (typically
steel or stainless steel shot, cut wire, grit, or similarly sized
pellets).

Abrasiveair
blastingis
the process of propelling
a loose abrasive media with compressed air
against a work surface.
Air blastingmachines are designed to inject
shots such as aluminium oxide through a nozzle
by means of compressedairsupplied by a
compressor.

blasting, is the use of an abrasive
media and compressed air to achieve
a desired finish on a chosen surface.
However, unlike dry blasting, wet
blasting uses a third element liquid
to enhance the levels of surface
finish that can be achieved. The
benefit of including water is a much
smoother and more consistent finish.

Blast room system

The layouts of Blast Room System are always different from plant to plant, every
blast room must be designed independently depending upon the industries
requirement.
Blast room equipment is used in a wide variety of industries that require surface
preparation prior to the application of a protective coating.
Blast room system consists of :

Enclosure.
Abrasive blasting machine.
Dust collector.
Hopper.
Illumination.
Doors.
