Satellites
Satellites can be divided into five principal
types: research, communications, weather,
navigational, and reconnaissance.
Communication satellites: provide a
worldwide linkup of radio, telephone and
television.
Weather Satellites: provide continuous, up
to date information about large-scale
atmospheric conditions such as cloud cover
and temperature profiles.
Navigation satellites: were developed
primarily to satisfy the need for a navigation
system that nuclear submarines could use to
update their inertial navigation system.

Satellites (cont)
Reconnaissance satellites:
have subsequently proved to
have civilian benefits, such as
commercially available satellite
photographs showing surface
features in great detail e.g.
Kennan, AKA keyhole

WIFI
Wi-Fi short for "Wireless Fidelity", is
a set of standards for wireless
local area networks (WLAN) Wi-Fi
was intended to be used for wireless
devices and LANs, but is now often
used for Internet access. It enables
a person with a wireless-enabled
computer or personal digital
assistant (PDA) to connect to the
Internet when in proximity of an
access point called a hotspot.

WIFI

How it has changed our lives?

Unlike packet radio systems, Wi-Fi uses
unlicensed radio spectrum and does not require
regulatory approval for individual deployers.
Allows LANs to be deployed without cabling,
potentially reducing the costs of network
deployment and expansion. Spaces where
cables cannot be run, such as outdoor areas
and historical buildings, can host wireless LANs.
Wi-Fi products are widely available in the
market. Different brands of access points and
client network interfaces are interoperable at a
basic level of service.

WIFI
How it has changed our lives? (cont)
Competition amongst vendors has lowered
prices considerably since their inception.
Many Wi-Fi networks support roaming, in
which a mobile client station such as a
laptop computer can move from one access
point to another as the user moves around
a building or area.
Many access points and network interfaces
support various degrees of encryption to
protect traffic from interception.

Bluetooth
Technology
What is Bluetooth?
Short-range radio specification
focused on communication
between the Internet and Net
devices, plus it defines
communication protocols
between devices and computers.
How Bluetooth Works

Bluetooth
Technology
Bluetooth Characteristics
It separates the frequency band into hops
Up to eight devices can be networked in a piconet.
Signals can be transmitted through walls and
briefcases, thus eliminating the need for line-ofsight.
Devices do not need to be pointed at each other, as
signals are omni-directional.
Both synchronous and asynchronous applications
are supported, making it easy to implement on a
variety of devices and for a variety of services,
such as voice and Internet.
Governments worldwide regulate it, so it is
possible to utilize the same standard wherever one
travels.
