Introduction
Android is a software stack
for mobile devices that
includes an operating
system, middleware and key
applications.

WHAT IS ANDROID

It is a open source software platform and operating system for mobile


devices

Based on the Linux kernel

Developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance (OHA)

Allows writing managed code in the Java language


Android has its own virtual machine i.e. DVM(Dalvik Virtual
Machine),which is used for executing the android applicatn.

The libraries and runtime
The kernel

Android 1.0 (Angel Cake)
The first version of the open source software was released back in 2008
Android 1.1 (Battenberg)
In Feb 2009, version 1.1
Android 1.5 (Cupcake)
Launched in April 2009
Android 1.6 (Donut)-released in sept 2009
Android 2.0\ 2.1 (clair)-released in 26 October 2009
Android 2.2 (Froyo)

For the first time Google released a software that was totally focused on tablets. This version,

Enhanced Notifications
Android L enhanced the notifications as they will
display on the Lock Screen.
If one can easily swipe it away or can double tap to
open the relevant app.

New Lock Screen


Android L has the new Lock Screen which shows the
notifications.
You can unlock by swiping up side.
You can also swipe left to directly launch the camera.
While swiping right will launch the dialer

New Multi - Tasking


Android L has the new recent apps section which is of
Google Now card style layout.
The open apps can be swiped off to close them as
before.
Thus the open apps flow on a sort of carousel.

New Notification Bar


The new notification bar of Android L has the new
color scheme and different layout.
There are new cast screen icon as well as screen
brightness control in notification bar.

Security Personal
Locking

As Google mentioned that security is the key factor for


android users.
The new feature will be enable for the users to unlock
their Smartphone by the device that is physically near
to the phone.
The best example is the unlocking the Smartphone by
the Android Wear smartWatch.

Battery Life New Saver Mode


Android L give the facility of extra 90 minutes of extra
use per charge as the battery saver mode.
Thus, the better battery life is the main thing which we
needs more in our Android Phones.

Performance
Android Lollipop supports 64 bit processors.
It will also upgrade to Art software library which is
twice faster than Dalvik.

Conclusion
Android L has many other new features and advanced
technologies.
