Triune Man

 Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as
God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their
foolish hearts were darkened.
 The flesh must be able to affect the mind and heart, therefore both reside
in the soul of a man.
 Romans 2:15 since they show that the requirements of the law are
written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their
Spirit thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.
 The conscience must be able to affect the mind and heart, yet remain
pure (in this situation so that it might bear witness) and therefore not part
Conscience of the flesh.
 Acts 24:16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God
and man.
 The conscience touches both soul and spirit yet must reside in the soul
Mind Heart because we need to strive to keep it clear.
 1 Timothy 4:2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose
consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
 When listening to the flesh the soul ignores the conscience (link between
soul and spirit) and creates a hard out layer on the conscience where the
Soul spirit touches the soul.
 Romans 7:17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living
Flesh in me.
(Sinful Nature)  “I” must be separate, yet affected by sin, therefore “I” reside in my soul
and can be affected by both my spirit and my flesh.
Triune Man With Christ
Abiding
 Romans 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that
Holy Spirit the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be
slaves to sin.
 The flesh is crucified and no longer has connection to the mind and heart,
freeing up the soul to listen fully to the spirit and keep it’s conscience
clear (because anyone who has died has been freed from sin – v. 7).
 Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's
Spirit children.
 The human spirit is in complete agreement with the Holy Spirit and not
subject to sin or deception (after becoming a Christian).
Conscience  Romans 8:5-6 those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their
minds set on what the Spirit desires…the mind controlled by the Spirit is
life and peace.
 Christians have the full measure of God’s grace available to them in order
to live sin-free lives (thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!)
Mind Heart  Romans 8:10 But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin,
yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
 Take up your cross daily (surrender to Christ in you), and He will keep
your body (sinful nature) dead, and your spirit alive.
Soul  1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because
God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has
been born of God.
 Christians don’t believe this verse. We confuse our human effort and it’s
so-so results with God’s desire for surrender and it’s righteous results
(foolish Galatians – see 3:3).
Flesh  Philippians 1:10-11 that you may be…pure and blameless until the day
Is Crucified of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus
Christ.
 Sin-free living only comes through continual abiding in the presence of
Christ and full surrender to the Holy Spirit. Impossible? No! “For nothing
is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).
Triune Man With
Christ/Demons Abiding
 Romans 7:21-22 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil
Holy Spirit is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law;
 A struggling Christian has allowed evil a foothold in his soul, but he still
strives to do everything that is right and pleasing to God.
 Romans 7:23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body,
waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the
law of sin at work within my members.
Spirit  Without revelation in his soul (provided by the Holy Spirit, available
through his human spirit) this Christian will start to sin regularly.
 Romans 7:24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this
Conscience body of death?
 The flesh that should have been crucified has been resurrected (“this
body of death”) and now has a majority say in life decisions. Only the
Holy Spirit, through the blood of Jesus, can cleanse a man in this state.
