National Integrated Protected Areas


System (NIPAS) Act of 1992
Republic Act 7586
provides the legal framework for the

establishment and management of protected


areas in the Philippines
identified202 initial componentscomprising
of proclaimed national parks, game refuge
and wildlife sanctuaries, nature reserves,
wilderness areas, mangrove reserves,
watershed reservations, fish sanctuaries,
protected landscapes and seascapes
As of to date, there are 240 protected areas

Ecotourism in the Philippines


Executive Order No. 111was issued on 17

June 1999 to establish theguidelines for


ecotourism developmentin the Philippines
National Ecotourism Strategy (NES) was
formulated to provide an integrated
management plan for the development of
ecotourism in the country.
TheNESis founded on thevision to
advocate, foster, coordinate, monitor and
mobilize support for ecotourism.

Conserving Caves and Cave Resources


Republic Act 9072 passed on April 08, 2001

otherwise known as the National Caves and Cave


Resources Management and Protection Act.
Under this Act, the DENR is tasked to formulate,
develop and implement a national program for the
management, protection and conservation of
caves and cave resources, with the cave
coordinating agencies, the National Museum,
National Historical Institute, the Department of
Tourism and LGU concerned.
As of today, over 1,500 caves have been recorded
since the start of the implementation of the Caves
Management and Conservation Program
in 1994

The Philippines is considered as one of the

megadiverse country in the world


The country was regarded as one of the

biodiversity hotspots in the world. This


means the country is one of the world's
biologically richest but has the most
threatened ecosystems.
