INTRODUCTION
TO THE PROBLEM

Background And Motivations

Doctors feel manual file system as inconvenience.
Since these problems are affecting their personal life; It is clearly understandable the
inconvenience of these problems as a family member.
Patients are unable to bring their records and medical histories. It also effects the hospital
work.
Hence they needed a solution to ease their work and tightness.

Problem In Brief
Current system is a manual file system
Data entry, validation and processing are done manually; this can be erroneous
at times.
Historical data cannot be systematically viewed or structured at any time.
Lack of security in the current system
Documents can be misplaced or damaged
Generating reports with the existing data is time consuming and reports are not
accessible from any location.
Delay in decision making

Aims And Objectives

Aim:
The Aim is to develop a centralized online Medical Information system (Web application),
to overcome the given problem.
Objectives:

To Design and develop a system for solving the problem

To create Centralized health/medical details system

To create logins to user categories

To Create accounts for each patient and doctors

To implement Forums (Doctors discussions)

To implement Computer-based patient education, etc.

To ease the Statistical analysis of data and preparation of annual health reports
(Data mining)

To upgrade the overall activities and process handling in hospitals

To complete the project and documents successfully

Functional Requirements To Be Achieved

Logins for several user categories
Manage members personal profiles
Manage members related information and Manage
patient profiles, records and history
Add/edit/remove/update data
View statistics
Generating department annual report and Statistics
Access from anywhere
Communicate through system

Non-functional Requirements To Be Achieved

Efficiency
User Friendliness
Accessibility
Availability
Accurate and consistent

Security and reliability

Portability

Proposed Solution

Inconveniences
of manual
work

System
Connected to
the network

(Doctors and patient record management, Resource

Management,
backups Management, organization Performance
Tracking and Report Generation.
Further, the best part is; the web based system
makes it possible to monitor the
hospital processes from any location. )

Can be
accessed
from
anywhere

Benefits to
everyone

Manual System

Web System

Stored in the manual file base

system.

Stored electronically in a database.

Too much time consuming process

Efficient and less time consuming

compared to manual system

Not secured

Secured

Not user friendly

User Friendly

Report generate is much more

complex and time consuming

Easy and extensive

Hard to generate reports such as

annual report

Can generate report easily such as

annual reports

Data could be loss and duplicated

According to the system rules data

loss or
duplicate Cannot be happen

Difficult to update data itself

Easily can be updated

Consumes too much space

Can be stored in virtual space

Data can be stolen, damaged or

destroyed.

Data can be protected with backup

mechanism

Difficult to manage

More manageable

REVIEW OF SIMILAR
SYSTEMS

Technology Adapted To OTMIS

Server side programing: PHP
Client side programming: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery
Database: MySQL
Server: Apache
SMS gateway
Google map API
Google SMTP server

PHP (Hypertext Pre Processor) was the main development language used
to develop the main system and its logics.
MySQL was used to handle all the development related to the database.
HTML was used to build the base Interfaces of the system.
CSS was used to make the plain HTML interfaces more attractive and
user
friendly, which also decided the look and feel of the system.
JavaScript was used to code all the client- side validation.
AJAX which is based on JavaScript was used to get data from the server
without refreshing it repetitively.
JQuery which is also based on JavaScript was used to implement the precoded time picker module, transition effect for the login and simple
password meter.

ANALYSE & DESIGN

Developing Methodology

Inception phase is where the business case is defined which includes the
business context of the project.

Elaboration phase is where problem domain analysis is conducted and

architecture of the project gets its basic form.
Construction phase mainly focuses on the development of components and
other features of the system being designed.
Transition phase is where the built system is transferred to the end users and
they are trained and beta testing and system validations are carried out. If all
the objectives are met, the Product will be released

IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation Part Is Yet To Be Complete

Implemented Areas Are Given Below

Login Module

Database Tables

User Interface

Further Work
We can send the feedback to users through E-mail and we
can modify the
system to send a SMS to other relevant purposes as well.
This system can be extended with decision support expert
system.
This system can be enriched with web service interfaces
for any other possible
systems that are likely to interact with this system in the
future.
Employee attendance/departure accounting mechanism
can be extent through
this system
