Fixed vs Growth Mindset

Words Their Way (spelling

program)
is a developmental spelling, phonics and
vocabulary program.
helps students to recognize phonic patterns in
words.
Students are grouped based on assessment and
inquiry into phonic patterns through activities
such as word sorting, word hunts and games.
once students have completed a level, they will
move onto the next level.

Words Their Way

Day 1: Pattern Inquiry - Cut and SORT your new words. Read each word
aloud. CHECK by reading aloud each word. Draw table with spelling patterns in
spelling book. REFLECT - what spelling pattern are you learning? When you are
done, read them to a friend and then place them in your baggie.
Day 2: Speed Sort - Perform Speed SORT with a timer. CHECK and correct
your speed sort. Add 5 secs for each mistake. REFLECT. Write 5 challenging
sentences using your words.
Day 3: Blind sort with your buddy. Place pattern headers face up on table.
Give buddy your sort cards. Buddy reads words to you one at a time without
you seeing them. Point to correct spelling pattern header. Buddy places word in
category you chose. CHECK. If wrong, give word back to buddy. Continue until
complete. REFLECT - explain spelling pattern to buddy. Write 5 challenging
sentences in your Homework book.
Day 4: Word Hunt. Record any new words you find that match your spelling
pattern and are not already in your book.
Day 5: Assessment

Multiple Intelligences
Activity
Which multiple intelligence (MI) dominated?
Do you think this was correct? Why/why not?
With a partner, learn more about your MI. Find
as much information about it as you can. Take
notes as you will be sharing this information.
Come up with 5 different activities that you
think people with your MI would like to do when
showing their learning. For example, a logicalmathematical person would probably want to
show what they learned through numbers in the
form of a chart.
