Introduction
Telecommunication is the transmission of
information over significant distances to communicate
In earlier times, telecommunications involved the use
of visual signals, such as, smoke signals, semaphore
telegraphs, signal flags, and optical heliographs, or
audio messages via coded drumbeats

Telecommunications also includes the use of electrical devices such
as telegraphs, telephones, and teleprinters, the use of radio
and microwave communications, as well as fiber optics and their
associated electronics, plus the use of the orbiting
satellites and the Internet.

A Modern View
Communication has been a major resource to the human race by
being able to transfer information from one to another. While many
different forms exist such as sign language, speaking, and body
language, it is telecommunication that has changed the world
throughout the last hundred or more years.
The telecommunications system has three different things in order
to transmit what is presented.
Some major examples of todays telecommunications are cell
phones, computers, and e-mail. Before the internet was available
communications have been broadcasted

PTCL
Pakistan telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is a company
established to undertake the telecommunication business formally carried
on by Pakistan in Jan 1996.

Under the PTCL reorganization act, 1996 the telecommunication sectors
were split up into four bodies.

PTA
Pakistan telecommunication authority is a regulatory body
responsible for monitoring the telecommunication business in
Pakistan. It frames rules and regulation for private telecom
companies such as
mobile phone companies,
internet service providers,
paging companies and pay card phone companies.

INSTAPHONE
Instaphone introduced mobile telephony in Pakistan in 1991 with
AMS technology. It holds honor of Pioneering coverage to an ever
expanding network of 185 Cities and pioneering consumer-favorable
initiatives such as; Instaone, Xcities, Pre-paid plans, Calling Party
Pays, low end pre-paid cards, 12 months Free Incoming, Roam
Free Incoming, Interconnect SMS services and International SMS
services.

Mobilink GSM (PMCL) started its operations in 1994. The first cellular
service provider to operate on a 100% digital GSM technology in Pakistan,
offer both postpaid (Indigo) and prepaid (JAZZ).
At the top of the list of Pakistani mobile companies is
Mobilink, the Pakistani unit of Egypt-based telecom company Orascom. It
has been in Pakistan since 1994 till today With 32 million subscribers by
2011
it has the largest market share. Its shares are listed on the Egyptian and
London stock markets (OTLD).

Warid, owned by the Abu Dhabi group of the United Arab Emirates and sister of
Wateen group started its operation in may 25, 2005.
Recently it sold 30% share to SingTel. Warid started it services in Pakistan May
2005. Since than Warid Telecom successfully launched the services covering

Telecommunication Honor
Pakistan has also had some strategic wins in the international
telecommunication scene. This month Pakistan won the council seat
of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Chairman
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) was elected as
member of Radio Regulation Board of ITU. Pakistan also holds the
office of President in Asia Pacific Telecommunity. ITU has also
announced that it will setup a Center of Excellence in Pakistan for
telecommunication regulation and policy.
