Project Overview
StereoWebMap

¿What is StereoWebMap?

StereoWebMap an Internet map

server that conforms to the Open
Gis Consortium specificationes
WMS version 1.1.x

The software is completely

developed in Spain and built in the
C++ programming language.

The development has been

possible thanks to the confidence
of distinct entities and institutions
that have supported this project at
one time or another

StereoWebMap

Server Description

 StereoWebMap contains functionality similar to other WMS servers as pertains

to both raster and vector data

SgdWms Map Server - 3

StereoWebMap

Servidor Specifics

StereoWebMap offers a differentiating element as compared to other WMS

servers in the market today which can be defined as::

Allows for changing the flight Spatial

Reference System (SRS) with absolute
precision across all pixel in the image.

Apart from conventional cartographic

information (raster & vector) it can also
server photogrammatic Internet flights..

StereoWebMap

Changing the flight Spatial Reference System (SRS)

 In the case of data between ED50 & ETRS89 it is calculated using the minimum
curvature method.

 Applies exact geodesic formalas which is always necessary.

 If it's enough to move the image origen it is limited to moving the origen.

 In the event that the image needs to be distorted it is always accomplished with less
than a 1 pixel error.

 The calculation is then optimized limiting the use of complicated formulas to the
minimum.

StereoWebMap

Photogrammatic Flights

 StereoWebMap is able to serve photogrammatic flights over the Internet

SgdWms Map Server - 6

StereoWebMap

 When serving a flyover, when zooming in on an area, the appplication selects two
images closest to the requested area and extracts the corresponding data from
each image.

SgdWms Map Server - 7

StereoWebMap

 The WMS standard has no definition with respect to stereoscopic images.

 Because of this the solution that we've implemented is to respond to requests with
an double-wide image with the left half corresponding to the right eye and vice versa.

StereoWebMap

 As we've seen, WMS has no definition for stereoscopic images..

 Because of this, when the client application receives a double-wide image there can
be unpredictable and varied results.

StereoWebMap

Solution 1: Anaglyph Visualization Mode

 Standard WMS
clients can work
with
photogrammatic
flyovers as long as
the image is
served in anaglyph
mode.

 This can be
accomplished by
configuring the
server directly or
via the STYLES
parameter in the
WMS request.

&ServiceName=Euskadi2007&STYLES=SGD_StereoModel::ShowAnaglyphicOn
STYLES=SGD_StereoModel::ShowAnaglyphicOn

Solution 2: Ortho Flight Visualization Mode

 It's also possible

to request that the
server orthorecitfy
the zoom at the
moment of
viewing.

 This can also be

configured directly
on the server or
via the STYLES
parameter of the
WMS request.

STYLES=SGD_StereoModel::OrthoOnTheFlyOn

Solution 3: Development of specialized clients

 It's also possible

to develop
specialized clients
that can manage
double images and
then view them in
real stereo mode
(as long as the
hardware supports
it)

StereoWebMap

Advantages of publishing flyovers online.

Cost effectiveness

Speed

Stereoscopic view

Photogrammatic precision

SgdWms Map Server - 13

StereoWebMap

Advantage of Internet Publication: Costs

Costs.

 Flyovers are created for other objectives (orthophotos, restitution, etc.)

 These flyovers are then published online

 The costs for publishing online are always much lower.

SgdWms Map Server - 14

StereoWebMap

Advantage of Internet Publication: Speed

Speed

 In many cases it's more important to have the latest data more than
having geometric precision.

 The modern GPS/INS flyovers allow for publication of information within

days of completion.

 Later the geometric precision can be fine tuned depending on the level
of detail of the data.

SgdWms Map Server - 15

StereoWebMap

Advantage of Internet Publication Stereoscopic Vision

Stereoscopic Vision

Stereoscopic vision is of great help in in certain photointerpretation labors. For

example:

 Forestal Inventory

 Erosion Evaluation

 Forest Fire Logistics

 Mobile Antennae Placement

SgdWms Map Server - 16

StereoWebMap

Advantage of Internet Publication: Photogrammatic Precision

Photogrammatic Precision

 The data served are from photogrammatic flyovers and as such they
have that level of precision. This can be applied in cases such as:

 Small restitution and cartographic updates

 Measure of growth of flora

 Erosion Quantification

Photogrammatic Flyover Services Available Online

Currently many important areas have photogrammatic flyovers being served online. Among many we
highlight the following:

 The entirety of Castilla & Leon from 2004 to 2008 @ resoluciones of 22 & 45 cm.

 The entirety of Murcia from 2004 (45 cm.) & 2007 (22 cm.). Also avaialble are some urban
flyovers and soon to be published will be some historic flyovers from 1945 and 1981.

 The entirety of the Basque Country in 2006 (22 cm.), 2007 (45 cm.) and 2008 (22 cm.).
During 2009 the entire province will be published at 7.5 cm.

 The entirety of Cataluña in 2008 @ 45 cm/pixel. Also available are metropolitan areas in 2008
@ 22 cm. as well as urban areas @ 7.5 cm. from flyovers in 2007 & 2008.

 The entirety of Cantabria from the PNOA 2007 flyover (22 cm.)

 Part of Andalucía from the PNOA 2007 flyover (45 cm.)

 Navarra PNOA 2005 & 2006 (The flyovers have been prepared but not published online).

The PNOA National Orthophoto Service is being produced using this same server although only in
2D
