Learning

is primarily a process of change.

When effective it results in changes to

theories of

Learning

Thorndikes connectionism
Theory

This theory shows

the relationship established
between a stimulus and a
response.

Watsons Behaviorism Theory

The focus of this learning is an overt

response which is measurable and the
main concept in this conditioning is that a
certain reaction can be induced based
from a set stimulus.
Two classifications of this theory:
Classical Conditioning and Operant
Conditioning.

In Classical Conditioning, a certain

conditioned behaviour was achieved
because of series of conditioning.
In Operant Conditional, requires an
effort from the learner to attain what is
expected.

Gestalt Theory of
learning

This theory focuses on the general make-up of the

experiences that a learner goes through.
This explains how and why people behave the way
they are.
Learning comes by understanding and focusing on the
weakest part of behavior.

Functionalism Theory of learning

This theory focuses on being productive or

functional.
The learner should know how to adjust with the
new environment where he/she is in.

Behaviorism Theory of learning

Conditioning in this theory has a

significant role in learning because the
process of eliminating conditioned reflexes
occurs through the substitution of one
stimulus for another.

of

M E MO R Y

It is the shortest-term element of

memory.
It is the ability to retain impressions of
sensory information after the original
stimuli have ended.

Sensory memory

Short-term memory acts as a kind of

scratch-pad for temporary recall of the
information which is being processed at any
point in time, and has been referred to as
"the brain's Post-it note".
It can be thought of as the ability to
remember and process information at the
same time.

Short-term
memory

Long-term memory is, obviously enough,

intended for storage of information over a
long period of time.
Short-term memories can become long-term
memory through the process of consolidation,
involving rehearsal and meaningful
association.
