Connector socket

PCB main pad

The connector housing assembly is already designed

The PCB main pad with holes and Constraints Areas are defined within the
MCAD tool
The connector socket selected in a standard parts catalog is located within in
the MCAD software
The other electronic components are selected and located within the ECAD
software
The final space analysis is performed within the MCAD software
The data exchange standard is IDF 3.0 unit THOU (thousand of inch)

Master Exercise
Connector Box (Step 1) Creating the main pad
10 min.

Create the Connector PCB Main Pad with mounting holes in three steps:
Create a PCB assembly in the product tree
Sketch a profile and create a pad and add mounting holes
Recognize the PCB entity

Do It Yourself

Starting from a new product, insert the given assembly:

Insert the Catia Document Connector_Box/L1/HousingAssembly.CATProduct

Then, insert a new Board Assembly product and a new Part and move its origin to a mounting boss.
Create the CBD main pad (thickness=1mm) as shown below, and 2 mounting holes (Diameter= 3.0mm).

Master Exercise
Connector Box (Step 2) Place_Keepout and drilled holes
10 min.

Create a Place_Keepout area

Add a Connector on the Printed Circuit Board with its drilled holes

Do It Yourself (1/2)

Load the Catia document

Connector_Box/L2/CATCBDEXConnector_Assembly_Start_L2.CATProduct
Starting from the given assembly, insert a Place_Keepout with the profile shown below and a
limit height equal to 4mm.

Do It Yourself (2/2)

Locate the connector in the one side of the board as illustrated below (connector instance
name should be CN01) and create drill holes with a diameter equal to .7mm for the connector
pins. Specify the holes as being plated and linked to the connector.

12

Do It Yourself (2/2)

Replace the Board assembly by a new one, imported in context, using the following IDF board
and library files, and the following catalog, with the Drill All option for board holes:
Connector_Box/L3/Connector_L3.idf
Connector_Box/L3/Connector_L3.lib
Connector_Box/L3/Connector_components.catalog

15

Exercise
Camera (Step 1) Creating the main pad
5 min.

In this step, you will

Use the various Sketcher tools
by generating the PCB main pad
for the Camera Front Side.
Become familiar with V5
PCB definition methodology.

16

Do It Yourself
Load Camera/camera_start.CATProduct
document
Create a New Board, designed in the context
of a camera front side as shown on the right
sketch.
1 - Define the PCB in the product tree.
2 - Sketch its profile in context.
3 - Generate the Main Pad.

18

Do It Yourself

Load the Catia document Camera/Camera_start_holes.CATProduct

1 - Create 4 holes on the board, position them

aligned with the 4 pins.
Diameter: 1.5 mm and thickness: up to last.
2 - Define them as mounting holes.
CBD properties: NPTH
