Project Quality Management - Definition


Project Quality Management includes the processes and
activities of the performing organization that determine quality
policies, objectives, and responsibilities so that the project will
satisfy the needs for which it was undertaken.
Project Quality Management uses policies and procedures to
implement, within the project's context, the organization's
quality management system and, as appropriate, it supports
continuous process improvement activities as undertaken on
behalf of the performing organization.
Project Quality Management works to ensure that the project
requirements, including product requirements, are met and
validated.

Every project should have quality management plan.


Project teams should follow quality management plan and
should have data to demonstrate compliance with the plan.

Project Quality Management Processes (Rita)

Quality Vs Grade
Quality is the degree to which a set of inherent
characteristics fulfill requirements.
Grade is a category assigned to products or services
having the same functional use but different technical
characteristics.
While a quality level that fails to meet quality requirements
is always a problem, low grade may not be.

1. Gold Plating Giving the customer extras that
do not add value to the project
2. Marginal Analysis The point where the
incremental revenue from an improvement
equals the cost to implement it
3. Kaizen Continuous improvement process to
reduce costs and promote consistency
4. ISO 9000 International standard to ensure
that companies have quality procedures and
that they follow them

1) Cause and effect diagram: Also
know as Fishbone diagram or Ishikawa
diagram. Used for identifying root
causes.

2) Flow Charts: Also known as process


maps. Useful in estimating the cost of
quality.
3) Checksheets: Also known as tally
sheets, checklists. Useful in gathering
data

4) Pareto diagram: is a specific type of
histogram, ordered by frequency of
occurrence.

5) Histograms: is a vertical bar chart


showing how often a particular variable
state occurred.

6) Control charts: are used to determine
whether or not a process is stable or has
predictable performance.
Upper and lower specification limits are
based on requirements of the contract.

points at which corrective action will be
taken to prevent exceeding specification
limits.
7) Scatter diagrams: also known as
correlation chart. Shows the relationship
between two variables
