WHAT IS GLOBALIZATION?

Refers to an increasing interconnectedness and convergence of activities and forms of

life among diverse cultures throughout the world.

Growing integration of economics worldwide through increases in trade, investment flows,

and technology transfer.

Crystallizes both the hopes of some people the we will finally achieve a global society
and the fears of many others that their lives and jobs are threatened by forces beyond
their control

Education systems can be seen as the core of the globalization process. One concrete
global development is the development of mega-universities, university networks and
virtual universities that can can offer competitive training programs for students recruited
from all over the world.

KEY CONCEPTS OF GLOBALIZATION IN

EDUCATION

An education for globalization should nurture the higher-order cognitive and interpersonal
skills required for problem finding, problem-solving, articulating arguments, and deploying
verifiable facts and artifacts. These skills should be required of children and youth
regardless of national origin or cultural upbringing.

Global education, as distinct from globalization, does what higher education has
traditionally aimed to do: extend students awareness of the world in which they live by
opening them to the diverse heritage of human thoughts and action, and creativity.

Global education places particular emphasis on the changes in communication and

relationships among people throughout the world highlighting such issues as human
conflict, economic systems, human rights and social justice, human commonality and
diversity, literatures and cultures, and the impact of the technological revolution.

KEY CONCEPTS OF GLOBALIZATION IN

EDUCATION

It seeks to weave the boundaries between the disciplines and encourages emphasis on
what interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary studies can bring to the understanding of
solutions to human problems, while it continues to depend on the traditional branches of
specialist knowledge.

Global education places a preference on the ability to think critically and ethically. The
ability to effectively access, interpret, evaluate and apply information is essential for
facing a constantly changing work environment, for continuing self-education, and for
participation as an ethical and responsible member of a global society.

KEY CONCEPTS OF GLOBALIZATION IN

EDUCATION

Core Values and Competencies for Global Education

- Core Values: peace and non-violence, social justice and human rights, economic
well-being and equity, cultural integrity, ecological balance, and democratic participation.
- Core skills and competencies: self-worth and self-affirmation, the affirmation of
others, including cultural and radical differences, critical thinking, effective
communication skills (including active listening), non-violent conflict resolution and
mediation, imagination (the ability to envision alternatives), and effective organizing.

EFFECTS OF GLOBALIZATION
IN EDUCATION

Implications of global information society in the education system:

- Demand for widening the education access for all.

- Continuous lifelong learning (e.g., facing the boundaries between preset and
inset, formal education and working life)
- Global versus local cultural developments
- Creation of new educational networked organizations (e.g. global virtual
universities, virtual schools, multinational education consortiums, etc.)
- Changing of educational management from hierarchical institutions to equal
distributions of network organizations, from commanding to negotiating.
- Demand for more flexible and general skills (e.g. meta-skills such as problem
solving, searching information, learning skills, etc.)

EFFECTS OF GLOBALIZATION
IN EDUCATION

Globalizations Impact on Education

- The needed reforms within the educational system like content, equity, sand
excellence, etc.
- The fall out of globalization, which will entail determining strategies relating to the
impending internationalization of education, finance-related issues and privatization of
secondary and higher education.

EFFECTS OF GLOBALIZATION
IN PHILIPPINE EDUCATION

WHAT IS INTERNATIONALIZATION?

Internationalization at the national, sectoral and institutional levels is defined as the

process of integrating an international, intercultural or global dimension into the purpose,
functions, or delivery of post secondary education.

Internationalization of education is one of the routes for achieving an equitable

globalization.

WHAT IS INTERNATIONALIZATION?

Top reasons for internationalization:

- Mobility and exchange of students and teachers
- Academic standards and quality
- Cooperation and development assistance
- Improved profile of institution
- Diversify income generation
- Curriculum development
- Integration
- Teaching/Research collaboration
- International / intercultural understanding

WHAT IS INTERNATIONALIZATION?

INTERNATIONALIZATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION

IN THE PHILIPPINES

INTERNATIONALIZATION: MOTIVES AND

BENEFITS

INTERNATIONALIZATION REACH

THE TRULY GLOBAL HEI (HIGHER EDUCATION

INSTITUTIONS): THE META-NATIONAL MODEL

LEARNING AND INSIGHTS GAINED

The Philippines has been participating globally. But reality is, its readiness to a fully
globalized education is still divided among rich and poor. We still have issues on quality,
access, and equity; K-12 readiness and sustainability.

Point of interest: What are institutions that are already globalized and internationalized?
How are they doing in the global education market?

What is the goal of the improvement and globalization of education? Ultimately, to

make the country progress economically by increasing the employability of the
citizens locally and internationally; higher employability translates to higher
purchasing power and hence improved quality of life for citizens; better policies and
benefits as the country boosts economically. Is the Philippines ready? Not fully but
we have to start responding. Two-fold solution. A consensus national awareness is
necessary. The students, the teachers, parents, the stakeholders are to take part.
What are the roles of each?

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Globalization is not just an issue in education; not just an innovation or a program; its
a systems approach to a continuous paradigm shift in educational revolution and
lifelong learning

Globalization is not just an issue in education; not just an innovation or a program; its

Integrate core values and competencies for global education

We should act now by believing in ourselves as educators; believing that it can be

done. We can start helping our country now.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Education holds the key to the countrys social, political, economical, and overall
progress. This can be done by instilling in each individual the value of the goal;
eradicating current issues that impede the forward movement of the improvement of
education such corruption, negative organizational culture. Stronger policies and
laws to ensure an equilibrium in the education system free of conflicts. Yes, its
idealistic but it can be done.

Teachers should adopt a high-thinking skills approach in teaching. *

Should consider the countrys unique positioning and customize the benefits to its
context
