Introduction

Managers task to influence and steer the


climate and culture within their organization so
that the goals of the organization are reached
as efficiently and effectively as possible
Many managers only have a very faint idea how
the culture and climate of their organization is
perceived by their employees.
A negative climate can also sometimes have
disastrous consequences for reaching the goals
of the organization.

objective
The study is conducted with the
following objectives:
1.To study the perception of employees
towards their manager in BHEL,trichy
2.What are the attribute employees think
their manager should have.

Research method

Sample and design


The primary data are collected through survey method. Survey is
conducted using well formulated Questionnaire. The population of
employee at superintendent level is found to be 20. Totally 20
questionnaire was distributed and 15 were collected
We interview 5 people and ask what are important attribute
according to them and why they consider it important.
Questionnaire Design
The primary data are collected through questionnaire survey. The
respondents are asked to give their opinion relating to the all
crucial elements.
Frequency distribution

Results
After analyzing the questionnnaire and nterview
we categorize different skills of manager in 4 categories
or attributes:
Communication:The respondents in our study felt
strongly about the role of communication in effective
management.
Motivation:The second theme to emerge from the data
is the manager as a motivator.
Coaching:The final dominant theme to emerge from
our data was the role of manager as coach.
Effective feedback:The ability of the manager to coach
employees was also linked with effective feedback

conclusion
Respondents in our study viewed effective management
as an indirect support mechanism for employees.
A manager who is a supportive communicator can create
a positive work environment that results in confident,
trusting employees.
A manager with strong motivational skills adds to that
positive work environment and inspires in the employees
a willingness to put forth
greater effort.
A manager with good coaching skills can assist the
representative through the development of that
representatives skill set and through effective feedback.

Further study

(1)A comparison of effective manager and


successful manager on the attributes,
consequences and values seen as important in
effective managers;
(2) A breakdown of the effectiveness of managers
at hierarchical levels within an
organization
(3) Exploration of the potential differences in
manager effectiveness in various situations or
industries
(4) A broader, cross-sectional study to examine
further the relationships we uncovered.
