Architectural Drawing the art and design that goes

into making buildings is known as architecture. To

communicate all aspects of the design, detailed
drawings are used. In this field, the term plan is
often used when referring to the full section view of
these drawings.
Engineering Drawing Engineering can be very
broad term. It stems from Latin ingenerare,
meaning to create. Because this could apply to
everything that humans create, it is given a
narrower definition in the context of technical
drawing. Engineering drawings generally deal with
mechanical
engineered
items,
such
as
manufactured parts and equipment.

necessary to complete a variety of projects. Some possible technical drafting professions include
mechanical drafter, aeronautical drafter, civil drafter and electronics drafter.
Mechanical Drafter
Mechanical Drafting involves creating detailed drawings and computer simulations that support the
production of a variety of mechanical devices. Such a career involves the use of both computer aided
design (CAD) software programs and traditional drafting techniques. These professionals must also be
familiar with many manufacturing processes, materials and metallurgy.
Aeronautical Drafter
An aeronautical drafter is responsible for creating detailed plans that support the production of aircraft,
missiles and other aeronautical projects, as well as testing materials in order to evaluate their possible
use in aircraft design. For instance, aeronautical drafting may involve administering stress tests on aircraft
models during production.
Civil Drafter
Creating the topographical and relief maps used in a variety of engineering projects, civil drafters employ
both traditional drafting techniques and computer aided design. Employees in this career may be involved
with the construction of many civil engineering projects, such as bridges, highways and water control
systems. These professionals are also responsible for accurately representing topographical contours and
elevations.
Electronics Drafter
Working with other engineers to determine the specifications, electronics drafters are responsible for
making diagrams of wiring and circuit board assemblies for electronics. They also create layout drawings
that others will use when they install or repair equipment. They might also be involved with circuit board
testing to make sure the boards work properly.
