Case
A written description of an actual situation in
business ,which provokes the reader the need to
decide on, what the situation really is or what the
problems are and what should be done.
A written description of an organization, covering
all or some aspects for a certain period of time.
There is no standard order of presentation.

Types of Cases
Based on their application, cases can be classified as
under:
1 Informational Case : These include a variety of items
like working environment, inter-organizational context,
co-ordination activities, problem areas, history of
events, inhibiting factors on decision-making etc.
2. Appraisal Cases: These involve problem solving and
decision making processes.
3.Historical Cases: These involve research and
educational interests.
4. Project Cases: These are radical educational process
involving interests.
Types of Cases
5. Live and Experimental Cases or Functional Cases:
Social welfare, rehabilitation or introduction of ideas
and analytical concepts form basis for these cases.
6. Decision Case: When, one or more problems are posed
explicitly or by implication. The case may be called a
decision case. The participants have to co-ordinate
conflicting requirements and view points of the
different character in the case and suggest workable
solutions.
7. Filmed Case: In this, a film is shown with breaks, with
class discussions intervening to bring out the points
that have emerged so far in the film. Cases dealing with
problems in human relation are particularly shown in
the film.
