BACKGROUND
Gulbarga has historic and glorious past which has contributed
to the citys rich cultural heritage. It is the only district in
Karnataka state where the maximum number of pre-historic
sites has been discovered.

SELECTION OF HERITAGE STRUCTURE FOR

DEVELOPMENT :
The work of providing basic services for tourism

development of any area is started by identifying the most
potential areas for tourism development. The first task has
been the priority analysis for tourist potential area/areas and
major attractions for tourists in Gulbarga city. After priority
analysis, the KBN Dargah was identified as the one to be
further developed.

About Khaja Banda Nawaz (RH) Dargah : A Sufi saint who reportedly lived in Gulbarga from 1407 to 1422 AD, Khwaja
Banda Nawaz is revered by Muslims as well as people of other faiths. It is
reported that Khwaja Bande Nawaz came to Gulbarga and stayed for more than 15
years. The construction of Dargah was started and it was completed during the
period of Ahmed Shah Waliya (1422-36 AD). The Construction of Dargah took
nearly seven years and in the Dargah complex are some big and small tombs
which look like architectural jewels of Bahamani period. The walls of this Dargah
are decorated with sentences of Quran painted in golden colour. The painting on
its wall and domes are in Turkistan and Iranian style. The saints corporeal
remains are preserved in the Dargah. In the library located nearby there are about
10,000 books on history, philosophy, religion etc., in Urdu, Persian and Arabic
languages. Besides, there are a Mosque and a college established in 1687 by
Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb on whose name is the famous Aurangzeb-gate
established. The annual Urs held every year in memory of the saint on the 15th of
the Zakid month draws lakhs of devotees from all over the World.

PROPOSED WORKS TO BE TAKEN UP IN DARGAH :
Under NKUSIP it is proposed to provide basic amenities of a Toilet Block

and a Kitchen Block to KBN Dargah where on an average an estimated
1000 devotees visit every day and Lakhs visit during Urs.
Construction of Toilet Block :The proposed Toilet Block shall be a two storeyed structure and consist of
7 urinals and 63 WCs for gents and 1 WC for handicapped and 69 WCs
for ladies and 1 WC for handicapped. In addition 20 nos. of Bathrooms for
gents and 10 nos. for ladies are proposed. There shall be provision of 24
washbasins for Gents and 16 for Ladies in the Toilet Block. Adequate
arrangements for water and lighting are proposed. The total plinth area of the
proposed Toilet block is 555 Sqm .

Construction of Kitchen Block :The proposed Kitchen Block which is a two storyed structure adjoining to the
proposed Toilet Block and consists of one slaughter house and 8 cubicles to
facilitate cooking to be done by the visitors. First floor contains dining hall
only. The total plinth area of the proposed Kitchen block is 124 sqm.
