Chhattisgarh Hand looms

In preserving the country's heritage, the


Handloom Industry of Chhattisgarh plays an
important role in economy of the country.

It has a long tradition of excellence in


craftsmanship therefore it occupies a
place of eminence.

The Industry of Chhattisgarh Hand looms


has potential to provide large scale rural
livelihoods with minimum infrastructure
cost. The reason behind the additional
strength and growth of the industry is that it
is independent of generated power.

The advantages are that it has potential


skill diffusion, low capital intensive, and
has a potential for employing large
numbers. Therefore it is turning out to be
the best option among all the unemployed
people.

The Government of Chhattisgarh is implementing


various Central and State Developmental Schemes
to uplift the living condition of weavers in the state.
There are 17400 handlooms in the state, out of which
co-operative sector covers about 8800 handlooms.

Assistant for Modernization of Handlooms, New


Weaving Training, Construction of Common
Facility Centre, Anshpunji Loan, Dhanveshthan,
Revolving Fund Scheme, Market Survey and
Exhibition Scheme, Research and Development
Scheme etc are being implemented by the
Directorate of Rural Industry(Handloom Sector)
in Chhattisgarh.

Integrated Handloom Development Scheme has been


started to ensure the integrated development of the
Handloom sector in a number of regions which includes
Chhattisgarh hand looms.

With an objective to create alternative employment


schemes for the weavers in the state of
Chhattisgarh, Shashkiya Vastra Pradya yojana is
implementing state level Apex Federation,
Chhattisgarh State Handloom Development &
Marketing federation Raipur.

Under this scheme, the Federation is working as Nodal


Agency for the supply of fabrics and readymade garments
produced by state's weavers to various Government
Departments and Public sector units.

There are 7900 weavers of 125 weavers cooperative societies who are engaged in the work
of Chhattisgarh Hand looms and can get
employment through Government supply
production.

Chhattisgarh is the second largest raw


tussar silk producing state in the country.

The state has been producing 500 metric


tonne of raw tussar silk.

Chhattisgarh has signed an agreement with ecommerce leader Flipkart for promoting and
marketing handloom products. The portal will
help all the small and medium scale enterprises
to retail their range to the customers across the
globe and present it on a global platform.
