MOTIVATION IN TVS,
KOLLAM

INTRODUCTION

Motivation is an important tool in the hands of the


manager for inspiring the work force and making them to
do work with enthusiasm and willingness.
It an
important function of the management to motivate the
people working in the organization to perform the work
assigned to them effectively and efficiently. The
management has to understand the Human behavior if it
has to provide maximum motivation to the personnel.
Motivation is something that moves a person into action
and continues him in the course of action
enthusiastically. The role of Motivation is to develop and
intensify the desire in every member of organization to
work effectively and efficiently in his position.

The main aim of this study is to find out the


employee motivation in TVS, Kollam as motivation is
an important factor which increases the desire
willingness and enthusiasm in workers, to apply their
great potentialities for the achievement of common
goals.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


This study helps to know the importance of
motivation in an organization. This study also
throw lights on the different kinds of
motivational techniques provided by the
company, the attitude of the employees regarding
the supervision ,the factors that influence the
motivation of the employees and this study also
gives suggestions to improve of the motivation
level of the employees.

OBJECTIVES
1. To know about the importance of the motivation.
2. To know the motivational level of employees.
3. To know about the different motivational
techniques provided by the company to the
employees.
4. To be aware of the different factors influencing
the motivation of employees.
5. To study the effectiveness of motivation at TVS,
Kollam.
6. To assess the overall performance of motivated
employees.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY


This study is conducted for employees working in
T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Pvt Ltd (Mahindra
dealer), Kollam for a period of 3 weeks. Through this
study an effort has been made to know that the
employees are satisfied with the motivational
techniques and also find out the drawbacks and
existing needs of the employees in the organization.
And also an effort has been made to know the
employees are satisfied with the motivational
techniques provided there and thus to see whether a
healthy relationship is maintained between the
employees themselves and between the management
of Mahindra Motors.

RESEARCH
METHEDOLOGY

Research is a systematic method of finding a


solution to problem. Research methodology refers to
the method of gathering data through extensive
interviewing and other methods. The data collected
were analyzed within the parameter of evolution
model to prepare the final report. This chapter briefs
the methodology employed for the research.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The research design used in this study is
descriptive

RESEARCH APPROACH
Research approach is a survey method and is
conducted by meeting each and every respondent
and collecting data from them. Data were collected
through a well-structured questionnaire.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
Data relevant for the project is
collected through a detailed wellstructured questionnaire contains 22
questions.

RESEARCH PERIOD
The time for doing this research was
three weeks from 15th December 2014
to 3rd January 2015.

SAMPLE UNIT
For this study the sample unit was the
employees of TVS, Kollam
.

SAMPLE SIZE
This refers to the number of items
to be selected from the universe to
constitute a sample. Here the sample
consists of 60 employees out of 145
from TVS, Kollam.

SAMPLING PROCEDURE
Data have been collected through simple
random sampling. Under this sampling every
member of the organisation has an equal chance
of being selected and the selection of any
individual does not influence the selection of
any other. The selection is purely depends on
chance.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


1. The personal interviews result much delay in the
collection of data as the investigator had to respond
their wins and fences to get the right data.
2. There are possibility of personal bias from part of
employees with respect to their organization and it is
also one of the limitation that researcher are
confronted.
3. The time factor is limited.

Interpretation: From the above table and figure it is clear that


100% of the respondents are aware about the term
motivation.

respondents are highly satisfied with the working conditions
of the organization. About 61% is satisfied with the working
conditions of the company. 17% have neutral satisfaction.
5% is dissatisfied and none of them is highly dissatisfied

of the respondents have very good communication

13% of the employees were highly satisfied with the
training programmes of the company. 82% of the
employees were satisfied with the training
programmes of the company. 3% of employees are

Interpretation: From the above table and figure shows that 35%
of employees have financially liked motivation
technique and 37% have non financial techniques are
liked. 8% of employees have none of these and 20%
have others.

Interpretation: From the above table and figure, 10% of the


respondents strongly agree that the motivation can
highly increase the morale of the employees. 67%
of the respondents agree, 15% of the respondents
neither agree nor disagree, 5% of the respondents
disagree and 3% of respondents strongly disagree to
the statement.

Interpretation: From the above table and figure it is clear that


25% of the respondents are strongly agree and 65%
are agree with leadership can motivate the
employees. 7% of the respondents have neither

Interpretation: About 33% of the respondents were strongly
agreed that the motivation helps in increasing
the efficiency of the employees. 55% of
respondents agreed with them and 8% have
neither agree nor disagree and 2% of the

of respondents are strongly agree with the appreciation
and recognition for job well done. 63% of respondents
are agree and 2% are neither agree nor disagree. 3% are

the statement.

Attractive motivational techniques can reduce the


absenteeism of employees.
Interpretation: The table and figure shows that 15% of the
respondents strongly agree that motivational
techniques reduces the absenteeism of the
employees. Also 73% of them agree with this
statement. But 8% of the respondents were neither
agree nor disagree and 3% of the respondents were
disagree with this statement.

Interpretation: About 20% and 70% of the respondents
have strongly agree and agree with the impact

17% of respondents are strongly agree with

12% of the respondents are highly motivated by
companies performance and goodwill. 82% is
motivated with the statement. 3% of the

15% of the respondents highly satisfied and 57% are

that 49% of the respondents have the opinion

of the respondents are strongly agree with job security

FINDINGS,
SUGGESTIONS
AND CONCLUSION

1. All the employees of the TVS company were


aware about employee motivation.
2. Majority of the employees are satisfied with
the working condition of the organization.
3. Most of the employees have opinion that
communication among employees and
management is very good.
4. Most of the employees are satisfied with the
training program of the company.
5. Majority of the employees want the non
financial motivation technique.

6. It is find that motivation can increase the


morale of employees .
7. Most of the employees agree with the
statement leadership can motivate the
employees.
8. Majority of the employees agree with
motivation increase their efficiency.
9. Majority of the employees says that there exist
appreciation and recognition for job well done.
10.More than half of the employees agree with
motivational technique avoid absenteeism of
employees.

SUGGESTIONS

The suggestions for the findings from the study are


follows:Provide appropriate training by
appointing efficient trainers
Non financial incentive plans should also be
implemented; it was the most preferred
promotional technique by the employees.
It will be better to provide more promotional
activities for encouraging the employees to perform
efficiently in job, Skills of the employees should
be appreciated.

The firm may take steps for the identification


of employees talent and its promotion, this
increase the efficiency of employees.
Necessary changes may be made in grievance
redressal system. Some of the employees are
not satisfied with it.
Provide opportunities to learn and grow.

CONCLUSION

The motivational strategies used in TVS are


very good. The employees are found to be
motivated and they are happy with the pay
structure, benefits, work hours, freedom to
work etc. The organization has to be
appreciated for keeping the employee highly
motivated and thereby helping them to meet
personal as well as organizational goals.

The study was conducted overall


employees and collected information
through structured questionnaire. The study
helped to findings which were related with
employee motivational programs which are
provided in the organization.
The
organization can still concentrate on specific
areas which are evolved from this study in
order to make the motivational programs
more effective.
