Forgotten facts about cartoons

1. One woman performed tons of famous voices
> The actress Mae Questel was most famous for voicing Betty Boop, but she also voiced Olive
Oyl in the Popeye cartoons during the 30s and Audrey in the Little Audrey series. She was also the

> She had many other appearances, most of which remained uncredited.

2. Mickey was a bad guy

In the first movies he appears in, he can be seen as a rude character or even abusing animals - in Steamboat Willie he

tortures a cat, a duck and a goat, using them as musical instruments.

3. Tom and Jerry were originally called Jasper and Jinx

In his first appearance in the cartoon called Puss gets boot, Tom is called Jasper by his owner, Mammy Two Shoes. Although
Jerry is unnamed in the short movie, creator William Hannah stated that the original name of the mouse was Jinx.
Some say that the current, famous names were inspired by WW II, when the British soldiers were called Tommies and the
Germans Jerries.

Walt Disney - who he was & what he did

Many say that Walter Elias Disney (Walt Disney) was the first person to begin animating cartoons in the year of
1920. The creator of Mickey Mouse and founder of Disneyland was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901.
His father, Elias Disney was an Irish-Canadian. His mother, Flora Call Disney was of German-American descent. Walt
was one of five children, four boys and a girl.

> He developed a great love of drawing as a youngster. When he was ten, he discovered the world of theatre and
cinema and fell in love with it. He moved to Hollywood, where he developed a character based on a pet mouse he
once had. He gave the mouse his own voice and personality. Disneys wife named him Mickey. Disney put Mickey in
his first movie with sound, Steamboat Willie. By 1930, Mickey Mouse was the worlds most popular cartoon
character.
Following on from Mickeys success, Disney created characters such as Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto. He
then produced an animated feature-length version of Snow White, which was the most successful movie of
1938. Dozens more movies followed, including Fantasia and Bambi.
Disney built up a global entertainment empire, including his Disneyland theme park. He holds the record
for winning the most Academy Awards (26), he was an innovative film producer and animator and has touched
the lives of millions of children and adults.
