Typhoons affecting Western Visayas
Many establishments such as Resorts and
Hotels were forced to close due to Typhoon
Frank last year 2008.
In the year 2014, 1,000 family have been
affected by the strongest typhoon recorded
which is Typhoon Yolanda that affects
mainly the western region area.

because of structures that is unstable and
can not hold a typhoon.
Due to such phenomena, tourism demand
tends to diminish because of inefficient of
service.

application of Tourism.

QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
TOURISTS SURVEY

Quantitative Analysis
TOURIST SURVEY

Quantitative Analysis
RESIDENT SURVEY

Need Analysis

The municipality of Batan lacks tourism

spots due to focus of the province of Aklan
on developing tourism sites in Boracay
Island which prevent Batan to establish
tourism sites which can cater new job
opportunities and also services to improve
their area.

Need Analysis
The project may also provide opportunities
such as:
Offer more accommodation to tourists
Create more tourism site option
Provide a resilient structure which will
present tourists safety
More Tourist Activity options such as:
1. All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)
2. Zipline
3. Agricultural Restaurant

Recommendation

Flooding caused by typhoons is the main

cause why service in tourism is disturbed. In
order to improve the production, proper
irrigation system should be provided. New
technique such as Bioswales should also be
considered to progress the production and
also may provide reusability of water that
can be used for other features

Recommendation

Concentration of province of aklan to the

major site which is Boracay Island holds
opportunities for tourism development of
the province. In order to solve such
problem, more accommodation and tourist
destination for the Province of Aklan may be
a key for improvement of tourism in the
area, it will also provide another option for
tourist to go to.

RATIONALE
Agricultural Land is the main source of
livelihood in the Philippines because of its
abundant production of plants.
Tourism
and agriculture have different
function in terms of the services it provides,
but both are affected by typhoons, it is
important to think of an architectural
solution to support the productivity of both
sector.

adapt to the climate change in the country.
MAT FOUNDATION
Mat Foundation is economical for it does not need
boring unlike pile method which causes a lot of time
and money for construction. It is also very efficient for
a soil that is overexposed to water.
