SERVICE
SYSTEM

General Information.1
The M/E LO SYSTEM is one of the most important piping system located in E/R area. The
owner and class have a lot of recommendations and requirements regarding M/E Lubricating
.Oil Service System which have to followed by the shipyard

Function. 2
System LO enters M/E trough COOLER and FILTER by MAIN LO PUMP and it is supplied
in two ways by distributing pipe which is attached to M/E. One line is used for cooling the
piston, the other line makes the lubrication of main bearing which will be drained into
.sump tank

Pump type should be screw or gear

to be used, or deep-well centrifugal
pump to be installed directly
. overhead on SUMP TANK
In case of screw or gear-type pump,
32 mesh strainer should be installed
on the side of pump suction in order
. to protect the pump

. Plate type is used as a standard

One unit with 100~110% capacity is
installed in. The plate heat exchanger
consists of a pack of corrugated metal
plates with portholes for the passage
of the two fluids between which heat
.transfer will take place
The plate pack is assembled between a
frame plate and a pressure plate
and compressed by tightening bolts

M/E COOLER

Next is auto filter, where impurities are collected on filters. Cleaning of filters are done automatically
by using flushing oil from same oil. Clean flushing oil is returned back in to the system from sludge
check filter. In case of maintenance for Auto Filter can be use by-pass filter. Auto Filter and by-pass
..filter have to be located as much as possible near M/E connection

FILTER

LO System
Sump tank located under M/E can be heated by steam trough steam heating coils.
System LO
passes trough the cooler and filter by MAIN LO P/P which supplies the low pressure LO of
2-3 BAR which is for the main bearing and also supplies the high pressure LO of 14-16 BAR
.into crosshead bearing trough the crosshead LO P/P
All piping system of M/E LO are class II pipe and must be carefully monitored. The most
important line of the M/E LO SYSTEM is the one from the filter to M/E. It has special flanges
and gaskets on it (E-TYPE FLANGE AND GASKET) which does not permit the impurities to
be collected between flange and gasket. Before final installation of the line between filter and
main engine a carefully inspection of the inside of the pipes must be carried out by owner with
. S/T team

At project 4095 the LO pipes from the filter were manufactured wrong. The two reduction from the
main filter had instead of E-TYPE FLANGE regular flanges. Because of late arrival of all the LO
pipes, this problem was found to late. Usually this unit is completed by P/O Team in NMS shop. This
two reductions were manufactured by E/R with material from other projects: reductions from 300A X
. 250A from project 4097 and E-TYPE FLG from project 4098
