What are the Flexi-Packs?

• Specially-tailored materials to be used in connection with existing course
available on VLE

• PDFs, MP3 audio files and video clips to download and use at the
university, at home and “on the go” (Mobile Learning)

• Cover a wide variety of skills: listening, reading, writing,

grammar, vocabulary, culture

• Contain a reference section with key vocabulary, grammar points and

learning tips, links to web sites and other materials

• Include a written task to hand-in to the tutor

• Answers to all the exercises and transcripts

Why launch the Flexi-Pack Project?

• facilitate access to self-study

• maximise the use of university facilities

• promote autonomy and learner empowerment

• provide opportunities for collaborative learning

• be user-friendly for both staff and students

• be easy to update and upgrade

• currently developed across SOAS and UCL in the following languages:

Romanian, Bengali, Nepali, Japanese and Turkish

Romanian Flexi-Packs
• 20 Flexi-Packs

• Provide the answer to an identified lack of published materials

• Follow the level two curriculum (also suitable for MA and MRES)

• Focus on listening skills, with follow-up activities (vocabulary, aural

comprehension, summarising exercises …)

• Currently produced and piloted

• Initial feedback: “It really is what I was looking for”, “straightforward to use”,
“essential to my learning”, “with Flexi-Packs, it is easier to progress” …
